My friend is selling his (almost) pristine, alpine white, 5 speed,1998 323is, with 87,000 on the odometer.

Asking is 4000 (negotiable) with 2000 appraised damage.

The damage was from a hit and runner who pitted my friend on 7 in the rain and the car went rearward into the guardrail.
The rest of the car is mechanically sound and it could make for a good track car.

The interior is almost perfect and everything works as it should.

My name is Brice Bader, I'm a freshman here and currently on the course of becoming an engineer. I don't know a whole lot about cars, but I've really started getting into them in the last few years. Hopefully I can learn more than just enough to get by about the basics of cars, and with all the members, I'm sure I'll get a chance to learn plenty. Everyone I've met so far has been awesome, I already feel comfortable with the current members I've met, so I'm looking forward to meeting some of the alumni. Hopefully some of the coming events will work better with my schedule so I can go. Anyways, I drive a 2010 V6 Camaro, Synergy Green Special Edition, and have a few more years before I have it paid off. None of my pictues are very good, but here are a couple.

I am going to toss this question out here despite the fact that not many of you are very familiar with BMWs.

I recently bought a stock 2.5l m50b25TU out of a 1994 325ic with 86,000 miles on it to return my car to STX, an autocross class I don't get absolutely dominated in. My hope is to run in that class next year (when not in the STi) and eventually move up to DSP or SM again long term. My donor motor was mated to a 5 speed, but it was basically driven around 2-3,000 miles a year in Florida until it was moved to PA for 4 months and totaled. The motor has probably lived a very gentle life.

Let's assume the compression is fine because the motor comes with a 15,000 mile warranty, I will verify this, but I basically want to put this motor in my car and never touch it again. What kind of things are must do while the engine is out for a car that will see about 90% track time? Oil pump nut kit, oil baffle, water pump, valve cover gasket, rear main seal, will all be done, but should I pull the head and put a head gasket and studs in it because it's so easy? Should I deck the head while it's off? Replace the weak early e36 valve retainers? Replace the crank bearings? Am I forgetting anything else obvious? Basically this build could cost anywhere from $200-1,500. I'm not sure where to draw the line because everything is so much easier with the engine on the stand. Time is basically no issue, I have until March to put the engine in. I just don't want to throw a bunch of money into this motor unless I need to. What say ye?

Went to Friday at the Track today at Summit Point in my dad's Audi R8. The morning session was on a soaking wet track, but the skies cleared and the track dried quite quickly just before noon. I setup a GoPro camera outside of the car on the top of the windshield, and had another camera inside taking video of the steering wheel and shifter. I managed to put them together into one video. Keep in mind that the GoPro is positioned in front of the passenger, not exactly in the center of the windshield.

I mentioned in the "wanted - diesel truck" thread that I had picked up a 3/4 ton Dodge, I figured I would post about it! Our "new" 1997 Ram 2500. It has the 5.9L gas engine with a 4-speed automatic and 4.10 gear Dana 60 axles. 110k on the clock, Sure Grip in the rear (in the trucks they call it Anti Spin I guess) and all the nice SLT stuff. Most importantly it already had my B&W convertible hitch ball. Even a brand new set of Michelin LT-X E-load tires.

Picked it up from a local guy in Mt. Jackson. He bought the truck from Hess Family Auto Center in Winchester with 11,000 miles on it in 1998. It originally came from Rick Hunt Dodge in Warrenton. Here are some pics from when I went to look at it the first time. He was asking $6,500.







The issues were few. It was solid and I knew I wanted it but there was no way I was giving him $6,500. By the time I left that day he was down to $5,500 but I was holding out for a killer deal. Needless to say when I went back a week later I got my killer deal and we brought the truck home. On the drive home I discovered that the cat was plugged up...so we got a new cat and fixed it correctly in accordance with the law. I set about fixing all the "issues" with the truck...

First, the very few mechanical issues. I got everything and did a tune up and checked all the fluids and changed the oil. And you know me, I had to address the fact that the air intake system on these trucks blows ballz.

Second was all the body stuff. I cleaned all the rust out of this large scratch on the front fender and filled it in with touch up paint.


Repainted the front step pad



Rear bumper was crooked. Took it loose and moved it up about an inch.


Silver stripe tape was looking shitty



Replaced it with gray stripe


Body side moldings in horrible shape with pealing chrome.

Not sure if this will interest anyone here, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway.

Have a Progress Rear Sway Bar that fits any 04-08 Acura TL or 07/08 Type S (24mm). I'm not sure if it will fit any other applications, so you might need to do some more research if you're curious. Comes with the poly bushings. It's cosmetically a little dinged up, but unless you're looking under the car you'll never see it...or you can paint / powdercoat it again if it really bothers you.

Selling my old track car (super outdated thread here) so that somebody can get her back out there and have some fun. I've been holding onto it for years b/c I haven't really had a plan, so I'm facing reality since it doesn't get driven now, I don't have $$ to fund two projects and I've got the Z to work on, and I just don't need it - it's time for me to say goodbye. It's a solid and proven platform, car is in great shape and tastefully modified (especially when compared to a lot of 240s out there), and just needs some TLC from somebody who has time for it.

Baddies:
-honestly, if you really care about looks then you'll say this needs some paint work. The top is fading, the PS mirror is blue from a parts car (glass was cracked on the original one), there's a dent in the 1/4, there's a hole where the antenna was (it's taped over and the car has been covered in a barn for the past 3 years so no water has gotten in, but if you're painting the sumbitch you should glass/bondo over it for good), and the PS door is green from a different parts car (replacing door was easier than replacing broken window regulator when I was 22). I've noticed a very small amount of surface rust that needs to get nipped in the bud.
-needs a passenger seat
-I've tried to make it as light as I could, so there aren't really any amenities left. If you're looking for a comfy DD, this car has a lot of work ahead.

Future potential:
Considering the mods done, I think it's a good starting point for anybody. It's fun to autoX and learn the ropes for the track, and I think it's relatively unmolested and a blank canvas for you to make your own and develop. If you're going out just to have fun and learn for now, then it's just right like it is (although a little slow on the long straights, but they're boring anyways).
If you wanted to go for NASA Time Trial, the car's base is TTF** and in it's existing state you would be in TTE (assuming a race weight of 2700#) with 3 points left for modification. The tires on the car are killing you here; taking your rears down to some sticky street 225s to match the front size would give you another valuable 6 points to work with elsewhere. (taking all 4 tires down to 215s will get you another point)


Price is negotiable within reason. Buy now so you have all winter to prep it for next season! Delivery can be arranged as well.

First of all, R.I.P. Dan Wheldon. I didn't have time to sit down and watch the race today, but I did pick him to win this race. Keeping him in thoughts and prayers. I hate to take advantage of such a situation, but does anybody know anyone who was at the race today? I am in a media class and I'm just wondering if there's a possibility of interviewing someone from JMU/Harrisonburg who was at the event. Not sure what I'd get out of it, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.
