Place looked pretty empty this weekend. For those of you who don't know they built a big shop/R&D/US headquarters facility at Summit Point.
Apparently they shut their doors a couple weeks ago. Leadership is under investigation for money laundering and other things?
Sucks for all you VAG guys I guess.

Quick roll-call for this coming weekend at VIR!
I'll be bringing a black BMW of some sort, as yet undecided, to run pace laps and some TTD sessions. Plan is to leave work on Thursday, some time after 3:30, and head down to Danville.
Do we want to grill and if so, who should bring what?
Any current students coming out? I have a camera that needs to make its way to Taylor if so.

On my way to work today I was walking across a crosswalk and a woman ran a stop sign and almost hit me. I ran up to yell at her at the next light, but it occurred to me that she might have been someone who wasn't familiar with the area and she simply didn't notice the stop sign, cross walk, or person walking across the street.
That got me to remembering how several times on the way to my building I've seen people cause near accidents because they thought they could take a turn but it was illegal, so they get confused and do something stupid. Or people who turn down one of the streets towards the State Dept. and are met with a secure gate, so they whip a u-turn without looking and almost get t-boned.
It just seems like some people when confronted with an unfamiliar driving situation lose about 50 points of IQ while they're in that uncertain state. Another example is when people are not sure whether they should take an exit so they dart across several lanes of traffic and hit a divider or other cars.
Has anyone else witnessed confused drivers hitting the off switch on their brain?

No really, if you see one within a few hundred miles of VA, please let me know. Yes, I know they didn't technically exist, so I'm looking for someone else's nice swap / conversion.

Just posting this up for Jason, who was at the karting event a couple months ago. The basics:
2006 M3
19k miles
6 speed manual
Titanium silver over black leather
Competition package
Navigation
Heated front seats, with lumbar/width adjustment
Xenons
Sunroof
Only modifications are:
1) Swapped out the one-button ZCP steering wheel trim with the standard e46 multi-function piece - so the car has cruise control and such. We did this together, and it was done with the factory retrofit wiring kit, soldered in. "Competition" traction mode was kept by using an e39 washer lever, with the "S" button wired to it. Slick installation.
2) OEM 330d shift lever with lit F10 M5 shift knob.
Car is clean, with no problems I can think of. It's the uh, left one:

He couldn't resist the P-car call.
$29k

So as some of you know I've been working with BMW to help with the launch of the BMW i3 on the West Coast. There's a lot of stuff I'm itching to talk about but shouldn't really say anything yet so I wanted to open this thread for a technical discussion of the cars. I've driven a Tesla and also had a chance to play around with an i8 a bit (everything but drive it...). So instead of telling you guys about the cars I'd be stoked to hear any questions, concerns, or comments about the cars. I love tough questions and I might be able to fwd some stuff to the product development manager of the i brand for you guys if it's a really good one. I'm very curious to hear your input on these cars especially you BMW kids. I can also look into the schedule for the drive events on the East Coast if anyone is interested in taking an i3 for a spin.

'Sup dudes.
Selling my jeep 4.0->4.6 stroker "kit", cuz I'm never gonna use it.
1990 (I think) 4.2 AMC Crank & Rods (aka 258). Came from this adventure so you'd be owning a piece of MM history for sure.
If anyone is looking for a project, I might also know where you could buy a very nice HO XJ with a busted bottom end to put this in for about a grand.
Anyway, I can take some pictures if you want but picture a crank and six rods. :dunno:

I don't want to get into photography, but I do take a TON of pictures. I like to document everything I do, kind of. I want something that's better than a smart phone, but it doesn't need to be something that'll win me awards. I'd love to be able to capture all of the awesome stuff I see when I go on my trail riding trips, or at the race track with you guys.
What are some good cameras around or under $100 that'll get me some nicer the average pictures? What should I look for if I'm scouring craigslist?
Is it reasonable to try and find something better than your standard "cool pix" camera for around $100?
