what are some funny things you guys notice about yourselves that reminds you how much you are a car enthusiast and/or love your car?

for me, sometimes i...

- find myself loading my groceries into the right rear corner of the trunk to "optimize" weight distribution for the 500 yard drive home
- feel dirty after putting the lowest octane into my car when im low on cash
- feel clean after changing the oil in my car despite being covered in oil and road grit
- break out in a sweat just watching people open their doors next to my car
- will actually break out in a sweat and tolerate intense swamp ass just to avoid using the A/C and taking away more power from my already weak engine
- will floor it under low bridges or in tunnels just to hear the engine better
- take it personally when people don't get out of the passing lane if they aren't passing or turning left
- park under street lights so i feel more secure about my car, and deep down i think my car might feel better too
- view speed bumps as being in the same annoyance category as migraine headaches

Think Aston Martin and you think James Bond, careening across ice or tracking down and shooting at the bad guys in his Vanquish. What you typically would not think of is a beast such as this dukeing it out with Lamborghinis and Ferraris on a race course, but there's a certain ring to the idea. Once upon a time, in the 1930s and the 1950s, Aston Martin took cars like the DBR1 to legendary places such as Goodwood and Le Mans but in recent years, Aston Martin has stayed away from the race track. The last time the marque entered the highly-lauded 24 hour event was in the mid ÔÇÿ80s ÔÇô definitely not during AstonÔÇÖs better years. Recent changing times and increased funding has led to Aston's return to racing with the creation of the DB9R GT, designed and developed by none other than Prodrive racing. The project's first showing is right now, but the car will officially be unveiled at the 2005 Le Mans 24 Hour race for its first showing.

Prodrive Racing, known mostly for their efforts on SubaruÔÇÖs Impreza World Rally car (and various other tuned high-performance Subarus) and their race-track star the Ferrari-Prodrive 550-GTS have become a trackside favourite in motorsports racing. Their Ferrari entry beat the odds, taking third place in its class during last yearÔÇÖs event. The DB9R GT is the type of vehicle that will compete against Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and TVR in the GT class (but not the GTS class which has the much faster Lamborghinis, Saleens and Corvettes) in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and perhaps the European GT Championships. Two groups of cars will be built ÔÇô one group consists of three independent race teams backed by Aston Martin Racing support will be dealt two cars, while the second group consists of individual race cars available to privateer racers in the same mechanical specification as the factory cars, but without the support. Aston Martin havenÔÇÖt released any prices on the car, but donÔÇÖt expect this to be a cheap ticket.

Read that, and stay hydrated. If you start to feel symptoms of heat exhaustion, then stop driving, come off your worker station and get to the EMS. Its not going to get any cooler till september.

From the audi club event friday-saturday.

I was watching Car and Driver television today on SpikeTV and they were featuring a Mugen outfitted Honda Civic(Type R) complete with the 2.0L i-VTEC engine from the Civic Type R that puts out 240 hp and does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. Why are these vehicles not imported to the U.S., I just am not sure exactly about this, that is why I am asking. Questions, Comments?

Hi everyone!

Thought I should post here the details of working and earning driver credits with NASA-VA to avoid any future confusion.

General info:
For each full weekend worked, a worker earns 16 credits (8 per day).
To drive a weekend for free, you need 32 credits.
If you have not received a worker logbook, please see me at the track or visit Registration prior to Sunday to be given one.
You can transfer work credits to someone else.
Please use your credits within 2 years and contact me prior to expiration if this is not possible.
We have a limit of 5 worker credit HPDE entries per weekend. They will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.
All Workers are Officials, and we try when possible to provide Official shirts to all staff. We currently have 8 extra white shirts with no names. If you use one of these shirts, please leave it with us on Sunday evening so that we can have it dry cleaned for the next event.
All Workers must maintain their worker logbook.
You must have the Chief of your speciality sign off on your logbook. If you work two different specialities (Grid on Saturday and T&S on Sunday), you must have the Grid Chief sign off on Saturday and the T&S Chief sign off on Sunday.
You must ask the Chiefs to sign off on your logbook by Sunday evening of that event, and that is your responsibility.
When you want to use worker credits, you must mail your logbook in advance to Laura Cobetto. Please keep in mind that HPDE 1 and HPDE 2 can fill up 4-5 weeks prior to an event, so you will want to notify us ASAP if you want to drive a particular weekend. We have a limit of 5 worker credit HPDE entries per weekend.
When I receive your worker logbook I will mark off your credits and return the book to you.
We now provide a hotel room per 4 workers unless you are a Chief or Assistant to Chief. Chiefs and Assistants to Chief are assigned 2 or 3 to a room depending on the weekend. When possible, we request cots for rooms and we also have air mattresses available.
Workers also receive 2 lunch tickets, and dinner and drinks are available on Friday and Saturday evening. We also try to keep the coolers filled at the Cobetto Trailer with water, and this is for all workers.

ASSIGNMENTS:
For most events, NASA-VA will need 4 MM Sports workers per event.
Typically, 2 of those workers will work grid and 2 of those workers will work timing and scoring on Saturday and Sunday. Grid workers are expected to be on grid at all times unless given permission. Timing and scoring workers should be on station for all race qualifying, race practices, and races. Due to the fact that there is more free time built into the schedule for timing and scoring helpers, we ask those people to also help with Tech and Registration Friday evening and Saturday morning. Adjustments can be made to this however if the MM helpers want to change jobs each day.
Prior to each event, Chris Procopio (or whoever is President for MM) will give me a list of 4 names who want to attend the event. If we need more workers, I will let Chris know.
I will write out the responsibilities of each person and Chris may assign the positions.
Worker credits will not be awarded if the person is not fulfilling their responsibilities throughout the weekend. The Chief where the worker is stationed will make that decision since they will be signing the worker logbook. Chiefs will have the names of the persons assigned to them and may make further distinctions of the responsibilities. There will be worker breaks and you must have permission of the chief if you need to vacate your spot at any other time.


HISTORY:
When NASA-VA first started, we attempted to use our staff to fill corner worker positions in addition to all the other positions. Corner worker positions are an absolute must, and we cannot run an event without them. It was too risky to have the possibility of someone being a no-show when it would be difficult trying to find other people who are trained corner workers. For that reason, we now rent out most all of our corner workers from the various tracks we attend. As a result, that has reduced the number of workers we need which has affected the number of workers we can take from MM.
For each event, we need the following staff for each event:
Timing and Scoring: 1 Chief, 3 Officials to count cars for all Race practice, qualifying and races.
Grid: Chief of Grid, Chief of Pit Out, Assistant to Chiefs plus 3-5 others depending on event.
Registration: 1 Chief, 1 Assistant, 1-2 helpers.
Tech: 1 Chief, 1 Assistant, 2-3 helpers.
(The MM workers that help in timing and scoring will also be assigned to help in Registration/Tech area.)
