In the middle of all my bad luck...
Posted by: bassmangrammy - 10-08-2004, 11:58 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (14)

I'm the luckiest person ever. I found out that my CL was not going to be ready today, so I didn't go pick it up. Instead, I took the Benz to go pick up some food. As I was pulling out of my neighborhood, I see a GT3 Cup Car!!!!!!!!!! (at an undisclosed location) So I drive up and it's our friends at Victory By Design. Greg, who also owns Ski and Skate, let me take some pictures and sit in his GT3. Picture below!!!

P.S. This made my summer. After all the crap with car wrecks and insurance, this was the pick-me-up I needed. Thanks guys!!

  NEW DATABASE SERVER!!!!
Posted by: JackoliciousLegs - 10-08-2004, 04:05 PM - Forum: Site Suggestions/Status - Replies (19)

Well everyone... our days of forum slowness are over. Right now, we're the only ones on a new nexpoint MySQL DB server. We basically have a dedicated server for our forum now Smile ... Thanks to everyone that posted after I posted the "DO NOT POST ANYMORE" announcement. You guys made the job just that bit harder Smile Anyways... all is well. If something acts weird, lemme know!

Enjoy!

What qualifies police officers to drive fast?
Posted by: GQROB - 10-08-2004, 08:09 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (9)

Please don't say a badge.

In recent times I have taken notice to the local police driving with one hand perched at the top of the steering wheel during high speed manuevers(lights on) through traffic. I carefully watched them to see if they were using proper hand placement or shuffle steering in which they weren't. On one occassion a police officer was negotiating a right hander while I was across from him waiting to make a left. I saw him enter and leave the turn with one hand on the steering wheel. Another time was an officer coming towards me in my lane swerving through traffic. All along, one hand on top of the steering wheel.
So this tells me that these officers probably have not been instructed in the skill of High Performance Driving, making them dangerous drivers. This actually irks me a little, because they are no safer at high speeds than the typical driver. There is nothing I can do about this, but thought it might be an intersting topic. Do they actually attend a driving school/course?

  Breaking news
Posted by: BLINGMW - 10-07-2004, 09:32 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (22)

as in, this guy's car just got 'broke' in half right at the end of our street. Confusedhock:

It's a 35MPH, 2 lanes each way w/ turn lane street that our little dead end road connects too, and this is what I saw just an hour ago as I was heading home (stuck around to play with my car on the lift at Geno's 8) ). I dragged Jess out to go spectate. Somehow this guy lost it, crossed the oncoming lane and hit a telephone pole sideways, breaking the pole in half (the top half still hanging from the lines), and also slicing his car in half at the firewall. Oh, and somehow ended upside down. And from what I gather, the car whose taillights you see far left in the 2nd pic hit his transmission and stopped in the center lane. No real damage there, just pointing out that his transmission ended up in the road. Neato. Something tells me he wasn't going 35 when this all went wrong. Pretty standard Atlanta driving really.

Sorry for the picture quality, my digicam is WORTHLESS at night. And that's after heavy photoshop level, contrast, and color enhancements.

  Ok...Super 60??
Posted by: Jeff - 10-07-2004, 05:15 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (28)

I can get a full super 60 turbo kit for my 2.2 Omni for $900. "60 trim" I believe is the term to describe this. It comes with injectors, a MAP sensor, and a turbo, the computer is an extra $150. ThatÔÇÖs Mopar, with a dealer discount Smile. Should I do it now, before rebuilding the engine and put it back for later then add it when I swap out the motor or should I just put the motor back in with the factory turbo and run it, just to make sure my theory is right. If you arenÔÇÖt familiar with my project it is a 2.2 (or 2.5 not sure, bad markings) Chrysler Turbo 1 from an 89 Lebaron being rebuilt and transplanted into an 89 Omni (factory N/A car). Mopar recommends off-road use only; I think it deals with the lag associated with this turbo. I'm torn between doing this or building up slowly, trying different variations. I know no one here is a specialist on these cars but from the general standpoint, on a college budget, what would be the best way to go???

New project and the toys are already a'commin!

I dont want to hear anything about the slush box. It will be swapped later down the line when a 1.8t goes in there. As far as its current state, the 3 speed auto mated to the 1.7l is still faster than most 100-125hp cars that are produced currently.

And the pictures of the toys? Theyre in my living room but I havent taken pictures yet. heres what arrived yesterday:

Polyeurethane Control Arm Bushings
New control arms
New Ball joints
New front ATE calipers
New ATE Powerslot rotors
Mintex Red box pads
Rubber valve cover gasket update kit

more will be on its way soon, the next 2 areas are the rear brakes and the suspension setup, then the car will be perfect.

FS - Ginormous intercooler core. 37Lx7Hx2D
Posted by: CaptainHenreh - 10-07-2004, 10:24 AM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - No Replies

It's huge! 37X7X2 Core. Get a local rad shop and get some 'tanks welded on. I know a place that cut and bent some CAD patterns out for me for 50 bucks, they could probably put on tanks for a similar price.

It's ginormous. Ask dave. It's so big, it makes him jealous.

Since everone will ask, I don't know the brand, but I suspect it used to be a ford turbodiesel IC.

And it's perfect for people trying to compensate for lack of traction because they didn't buy an AWD DSM in the first place.

I'll post pics later.

  Save posts as drafts

For example, I'd like to go ahead and start my write-up on the Z's 120k mile service, but I don't want it posted yet. The most convenient place to do this would be here on the forum (rather than a text file on my local disk) - but I don't think the capability exists in the plain vanilla phpBB.

Jack - any chance of installing one of the mods that adds this functionality? For example:

Nice to meet you new peeps.

And an apology that you had to sit through my presentation, I didn't think it was that amazing but then again I did try my best so it was as good as it was going to get.
