2011 NASA Nationals

I will be attending the 2011 NASA Nationals this year and so will a few MMers. I know Matt Leech is already on his way, and Mike D'Amico and I are headed on our way up tomorrow night. I will be running in TTC and excited to see what kind of cars show up at Nationals!

just started monitoring the times, not sure how DJ or Cobetto are doing, no session results are posted as far as i can tell, only live timing as the sessions are going.

First day:

Wow, rain was not kind. After an 8 hour tow that landed us to get into the hotel room at 3:30AM this morning, and then had to wake up at 6:30 to get to the track. Arrive and wow, the paddock is absolutely FILLED with cars with some pretty sweet contraptions. Ah, but I would have no time to enjoy the sounds and smells.

Arrive at the track 7:20, registration took till 7:45, TT drivers meeting at 8 and lasted till 9:10 or something ridiculous. Ran to the car and had to go out on my first session with my bald Direzza Star Specs. One word: Scary. Its raining pretty hard so I can barely see out the windshield on a track ive never been on. A quick spin on exit of Turn 1 5 laps in ended that fun. A waste of a session, didnt even get to learn the track as I was so focused on not crashing. Some changes needed to be made. Added a bit more wing in, got some stickers on, and finally had time to unload the truck. Grabbed lunch and dropped off a set of wheels to get mounted. Quick! Another TT meeting at 12:30. Im running to get stuff done. TT meeting until 1:10, 40 minutes till on track. Run through the scales to make sure ill make weight, swap to Brand new R6s to scrub em in and go out to a slightly drying track. My turn in points are way too early, and its just obvious I dont know the track. This is my first attempt at the track where I could see and I was scrubbing in tires so it ended as a success. After the runs, top 3 in each class were sent to get weighed and quick inspection. I was surprised honestly to be in that top 3, so I cant complain.

After finally having 10 freaking seconds to sit down for a second I looked at what was going on. Yes I needed to be much better on the track, but I could notice the aero balance that had been ruined by my destroyed front bumper. The brackets broke on the side letting my splitter just flap in the wind.

Solution: HDR racing (home depot racing for those not in the know ). After securing a 4x8 block of plywood, we drilled, grinded, and have come up with a new splitter that ill be mounting tomorrow. Pics to hopefully follow shortly.

i'm just glad he is fixing shit track side. he'll never get to live down the cracked valve cover :-P

Long ass week at Nationals with a ton of ups and downs, will hvae a full story report soon enough here but yes, suffice to say, I won 1st in TTC in the LAST session of the day Sunday morning with a 1:36.9; which also creates a new TTC track record for Mid-Ohio from a 1:38.1. Wasnt easy at all, and actually I thought I was going to end up second, after the top 4 people crushed the old TTC record being in the 1:37s.

I also was disqualified from my 1:36.9 putting me in second after the call from cornerworkers had me 4-wheels off that session. Luckily a guy behind me had video, and after 20 minutes of watching the video 20 times over, the officials "voted" on wether my lap would count. The final verdict: 3 wheels off!! I kept the front left wheel barely on the curb enough to secure the championship!!! Boy was I sweating during this 20 minute period. This was after my car was inspected head to toe three seperate times, weighed 8 times, and dynoed once. Im still twitching, this was the single most fun ive ever had at any track event ever!

A college in Ohio's dance team, at least they didnt look like they were straight from the local strip club. :lol:
