1978 Kawasaki Kz200 (Motorcycle)
#1
Hey all. I know this isn't a car but I thought some of you might be interesting in motorbikes. I am wanting to start a motorcycle club so do contact me if you are interested. Members won't need to own or have ever driven (on) one. Fun stuff in in store possibly including mechanics. Alright check out my project. I bought this thing last summer for $450. It was running at the time but obviously had some issues. After I let her sit for a semester of school, she died and never started again  . Alright now for my first restoration:

As posted on Craigslist, Kansas City:

The reason why she was not running before which later took quite a bite out of my wallet:

This is how I got her looking before the second year of college and before she died again:

Alright so that was my first attempt at making something look pretty. Now here is my current build. Many many issues have been found along the difficult process of taking her apart but she's all stripped now.
Beginning:

Parts:

The engine waiting to be tinkered on: (198cc)

Where I want the battery to be:

Cut off the side cover tabs and battery tray tabs:

The workshop: (Parents garage..needs to be cleaned before the next hail storm so cars can fill it up)
Newly painted frame: (Engine enamel spray..don't really know if I should have used that but oh well. She's getting a clear coat)
Newly painted parts: (same engine enamel spray)
Started to paint the wheels. From:

To: (again I'm using engine enamel)

Again more painting:

Alright yall, this is my issue. The head and the cam are ruined. Apparently the chain was too tight around the camshaft causing the cam to spin on the top of the head cam thing causing both to strip. Now I'm waiting on parts both the head and camshaft (ebay for $90 for the both from a used KLT200..hopefully it'll fit).
Here are the photos:
Quite badly stripped:

The cam:

Quite stripped:

Now I'm stuck finding a Head and Cam for her. Looked on Ebay, Bikebandit (too damn expensive), national Craigslist, other online places and NOTHING. Found Nothing. So I'm stuck with a non running bike. I've bought a KLT200 head and cam, they fit but the carb boot intake is much too big on the KLT200 head. Also there is no tach meter. Can anyone help?
-Thanks for looking,
Michael Tracy

Neat project, I've been fixing up a GS500 all summer, I just need to put a motor in it, goddammit, your project looks pretty well sorted though.

We sorta are the motorcycle club at JMU, most of us are into cars, but a couple of the current students and a lot of the alumni have bikes as well, and we're all into them. And people that are into bikes would probably come to us. Not sayin' you can't start your own club or nuthin, cause we don't really have any bike "events" per se, but just thought I'd share
Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan

Then: 18 VW GTI Autobahn | 95 BMW M3 | 15 VW GTI SE | 12 Kia Optima SX | 2009 VW GTI | 00 BMW 540i Sport | 90 Mazda Miata | 94 Yamaha FZR600R | 1993 Suzuki GS500E | 2003 BMW 325i | 95 Saab 900S

Hey thats a nice bike. Get that thing running! She'll be a blast around town/campus. Well what I want to do is have an official club with the Madison Motorsports, kinda like a branch of it. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks and good luck with that build of yours.

Alright so I have the parts from the KLT200 that I'll be keeping. The head and cam. Check it out.

Couldn't resist. He was lying right there next to my room.

The cam but with bearings to keep the cam from shredding up the head.

Oh this is how my room looks. Yes I keep new parts in my tiny room to keep things more organized than how they currently are in the garage.

Paint, cables, new allen screws, a tire, the head, bulbs, gaskets, etc.
