Grand Am Cup at VIR 10/1 - 10/3

October 1-3 at VIR... Come out, meet the drivers, check out their cars, bring a good camera, and cooler filled with beer. We are planning on doing little grill out / BBQ or something...

Discounted Tickets
In order to get discounted tickets, the invited club must send one check to VIR. Stacy @ Triange Z Club has been kind enough to set up online registration and payment at http://www.myautoevents.com. Triangle Z Club will absorb the transaction fees since we are 'requiring' pre-registration. While the discount isn't all that much, it's something... Prices are as follows:

3-day ticket, includes program - $36 (reg $40)
Friday only - $9 (reg $10)
Saturday only - $18 (reg $20)
Sunday only - $27 (reg $30)

Accomodations
A lot of places are already booked up. Best bet seems to be Innkeeper in Roxboro, NC. Cost is $52 / night. If you have other suggestions, please post them here.

John, not to jack your thread but I have another way for us to attend.

I contacted the Club Racing Event Chairman for the First Settlers Region, PCA and he is very interested in having us help work the event. Here is what he said:

"We would be very interested in you and your colleagues volunteering for the event. I have your name on our list so if you could please send me the names and contact information of the other folks who are interested in helping out it would be greatly appreciated.

The race cars will all be teched on Thursday (9/30). We need some help doing this (as we have 80 cars to tech) and we also have spaces available for grid, timing & scoring and impound. (these positions are on Friday, Saturday & Sunday).

Volunteering gets you into the gates for free and also access to the pits and grid. So get me those names and contact info back ASAP as I'm in the process of finalizing the volunteer roster as we speak."


I am definately planning on going if we can get enough people to share the cost of a hotel room. If anyone isn't familiar with the Grand Am races, these are the ones you drool over on Speed. Trust me this will be fun. I'd be willing to drive down Friday morning or even Thursday night... Who's in?

I'm not interested in working, as I'd like to enjoy some free time of goofing off. Those who share the same sentiments as I do, sign up by Friday.

I have a hotel room at the Innkeeper in Roxboro, and it is available to anybody who'd like to pitch in towards the cost. Danville was pretty much sold out unfortunately. Anyone who needs a bed / floor space is welcome to stay with me... just let me know!

Heres what he sent me as far as worker spots:


Hey gang:

Hope things are going well. Essentially we have four categories for volunteers to fill over the course of 4 days (Thursday, 9/30 thru Sunday 10/3). This is the latest schedule and is subject to some minor changes on the days of the events.

Folks that are required on Thursday the 30th of September starting around noon would be registration and race car tech. Ideally we need at least 2 more people to help with registration and four more to help with tech. If you think you can help out on this day, please let me know so that I can finalize the roster. The plan is to finish tech and registration by Thursday evening at 6:00PM.

On Friday, October 1st we start early at about 7:00 AM getting ready to grid cars (first Porsches go out at 8:00 AM for practice) and start with timing and scoring at that time too. There are 2 practice sessions in the morning (back to back) lasting about an hour total time. The third practice session is in the early afternoon (about 30 minutes) and the final session is also 30 minutes (late afternoon we should be done by 4:00 PM). The third and fourth practice sessions grid cars according to their fastest lap time from the previous practice session.

The first two days involve the most work.

10/2 We start gridding cars at 7:30 AM. At 8:00 AM Saturday morning is the PCA 30 minute sprint race (cars are gridded according to their best lap time from the day before) and then there is a 30 minute practice session for the enduro late Saturday afternoon (finished by 6:00 PM).

10/3 We start gridding cars at 7:30 AM. At 8:15 AM Sunday is the start of the PCA 1-hour enduro. Cars will be gridded according to their best lap time of the weekend practices. We should be done by 10:00 AM and then you're all welcome to stay and watch the Grand Am Professional series race which starts right after lunch.

Respond to this e-mail and let me know if you are interested as working in Registration; Timing/Scoring; Tech; Grid; Impound. Everyone will be assigned as best we can with their desires; but, it's first come first serve.

In addition to free admission to the Grand Am Weekend we will also be getting shirts made for our volunteers so please send me your shirt size with you reply.

Sorry its taken so long to figure out, but I'm going home Friday then leaving my house at 5am to be there for the 1st PCA race, and leaving after the afternoon PCA race on Sat. I won't need hotel space, but thanks anyways. See you guys there.
