Wheel opinions for the IS
#1
Ok, so my master plan is slowly falling into place for my IS. I didn't really want to make an entire "project" thread for it because I won't be doing a whole lot of performance upgrades, mostly just cosmetic / comfort things. Now that the angel eyes have arrived, my next focus is on a set of summer rims. I LOVE my current OEM rims, but the previous owner curbed them all to hell and they will make for better winter rims in the long run.

As you know, being the rice king of bling, I've been looking at several alternatives for rims for the IS. Anything black with a chrome lip is always good, but my brother has that (5Zigen FN01RCs) on his Lancer and I'd like to do something different. Here's what I've come up with:

Gianelle chrome V5s ~$245 / wheel for the 18x8

Here's another pic of the same wheel, black with chrome lip (I don't really like the look of this):
Black with chrome lip is ~$370 / wheel for 18x8

Now, as much as I love the ghetto look of chrome rims, they most likely would get fucked up really quickly because I have to drive in gravelly / muddy areas quite a bit. My job doesn't always give me the most ideal driving conditions. So along came this deal:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://my.is/forums/showthread.php?t=314915">http://my.is/forums/showthread.php?t=314915</a><!-- m -->
Guy is local and I could probably lowball a bit more than what he's asking since I'd save him the hassle of shipping them. These would be a great candidate for powdercoating gloss black or even rattle-canning if I was feeling industrious. I think those 18s would look so good on my car, as the '01s have a lower stance from the factory. Here's a pic of them on a 250/350:

What do you guys think? If I could pick up the OEM IS350 rims for like $700 or less it would be a steal, considering they're like ~1500 brand new.

Get those 350 rims man. I think spray painting them bronze would look hot on your white car.

I'll probably keep the old rims as fall / winter rims, maybe see if I can find someone to polish them up or repair them in the off-season. They're still great rims and are among my favorite OEM wheels of any car, but they are beyond dinged up and I'd like something more bling for the spring =P

Damn these rims look so sick, even better in person. The guy actually worked at a Lexus dealership and bought me 4 brand new center caps for them for free. I'll clean them up a little and post some pictures later tonight or tomorrow =)

Yep my camera sucks balls and doesn't do these rims justice. Washed and waxed them up and put them back in their boxes ^_^

Still debating whether to powdercoat or possibly rattle-can them gloss black. The only real hurdle would be getting the centercaps done correctly. What do you guys think?

Here's roughly what they would look like on my car. If anyone is bored and wants to photochop some gloss blackness onto those it would be much appreciated =D

oh snap! those rims on that blue IS look SMOKIN hot! nice find man.

i think they'd look pretty good in a deep anthracite color. if you want to keep the chrome on the center caps, here's a trick i used to do when i wanted to mask stuff on the cheap 'n dirty in the JMU studio 8)

- find some clear silicone goop (usually around the paint section in Home Depot) and apply it very thin onto the surface of the "L" logos on the caps. if i little runs over the side you can just get a q-tip or something and get it up. even if it goes over a bit you'll probably never see it as the depth on the logo isn't much. then let it cure 12 hours, spray on your paint, and peel it off like any other liquid mask. as long as the surface is sealed or very smooth it'll just peel right off.

From a guy who tried to spray his rims - if you want them black just powder-coat them and do it right the first time. You will save a lot of time and heartache in the long-run.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

I know its a little off topic since you got the new rims, but I saw a blue IS in my neighborhood the other day that had part (the inside of the spokes and center) of the stock rims painted to match the body color - it looked eff'in sweet
