Incident on the motorcycle, went to ER
#1
Nothing serious of course. Riding to subway, had my visor up like I normally do in hot weather. I was wearing my oaklies, which I thought would protect my eyes. Something made its way around them and into my eye. I tried to get it out at a stop light but couldnt. I was almost there so I just rode the rest of the way and then tried to get it out there, but I still couldnt. I got my sub and went back home. Tried for like 30 minutes to get it out (flushed it with water, sprayed water in my eye with that attatchment on kitchen sinks, nothing worked). I went to a group meeting hoping it would work its way out, but no luck. I could see it sitting in my iris. About 10 or 15 years ago I got something stuck in my eye and couldnt get it out. I had to go to the ER so this time around I pretty much knew thats what I was gonna have to do.

I bummed a ride to the hospital, and after about 3 hours of waiting got it taken care of. They gave me Lortab for the "pain". I asked if I really needed it, and they said it may not hurt now, but when you try to sleep it will really bother you. Even though whatever was in there is out now, I can still feel the abbrasion on my eye when I blink. Anyways, always ride with your visor down, even if your wearing sunglasses.

this actually happened to me as well except i fell asleep on a couch and woke up with this abrasion. It'll take some time for it to heal - allow about 1.5 weeks or a little longer.

sorry to hear about this, if you keep that eye closed it'll hurt less Sad

They actually make glasses that are actually padded to protect stuff from flying around into your eye.

I had a little rock hit the very outside corner of mine on track as well, good thing I was gettin my lean on or it woulda hit me right in the eye! I run with my visor closed almost all the way now all the time.

not trying to jack your thread! Glad you still have two eyes man. Confusedhock:

I guess the lesson is, we should ALL be careful with our eyes in this wide world of motorsports. We all seem to have an "almost" story. I'd hate for someone here to find out first hand how quickly they can be a pirate when they could have learned from all of us!

I took a racquetball in the eye and required emergency surgery on my eyeball a week later, couldnt move out of bed for 6 weeks, and missed half a semester of school.

I'm rather protective of them now.

Liar! I don't think I've seen the clear shield on your helmet since you bought the tinted one.

Not me, the visor turns the helmet into an oven, but i wont go out on track without sunglasses. I have separate lenses for all light conditions

Damn, all these eye injury stories SUCK. I've been hit in the cheek twice with rocks while driving on the beltway with my window down.

My sister's friend's sister, who has always been very attractive, had one of her eyes destroyed by her boyfriend...They were playing around with a paintball gun, and it went off when she was looking down the barrel. I don't know her current status, but this happened about 2 months ago. I know she was with an eye patch for a couple of weeks, but I don't know if she still has it on, or if her eye was replaced or anything else like that. Wow how life can change in a second...forever.

Also should fall under the category of: 'Things that should NEVER happen.' Paintballs fly out of the barrel at a max of 300 fps...that's 204 miles an hour, folks. Paintball markers are not "laser tag" and they should not be fooled with without proper safety equipment.

The only time I look down the barrel of my paint ball gun is when I have it detached from the gun for cleaning. This just a case of stupidity.
