My laptop has been being a bitch lately. I get the limited or no connectivity message when the signal is strong from the wireless router.
A few days ago my solution was to go outside in front of my house and that would allow me to get a connection. My mom has been fooling around with it and has gotten no where, I just don't know what the problem is. We have a another laptop that connects to the wireless router also but the no name laptop is not giving me nearly as many problems as my damn dell.

My mom spoke with a Cox employee and he said that everything looks good on their side concerning the modem. He suggested that I remove some of the security components on my computer because sometimes they update and affect connectivity. I know that Win XP SP2 has also had problems. My Mom recently got a Mcafee update, but is now disabling it.
My connection for the past few weeks has been unreliable at best and would only come on in certain rooms of the house.

Log in to the wireless router and change the channel it is broadcasting on (should have 10 or 12 to choose from) and update the drivers for your wireless card.

Most of them you type in the router's IP address, then enter the username and password you set up, when you set it up.

open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all
find the gateway address
put that IP address in a browser address bar
try the default username of admin with a blank password
or else delete your connection profile and set it up again. Use the dell utility and not the windows one

he cant get wireless from his router. He didnt say anything about losing his internet connection
i would continue to check your IP address and make sure that it's one that the router is distributing via the subnet. (eg: linksys router - 192.168.x.x for the computer's IP address) If it's not using that subnet (or one that you configured) then 'repair' it using the support tab -> repair button. Is this a secure wireless signal? if so you'll need the pass phrase to gain access. If that doesn't work then restart the modem, then restart the router, then restart your computer.

my wireless gets touchy. But, I've yet to be to a point that I couldn't take care of it, the only time was when the connection was off on comcast's side. But, since you said yours was good, then that won't be it.

i might be able to swing by today around 7-7:30 if you want to try and trouble shoot. I'm actually setting up my mom's network tonight - shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. You're also on my way home
