Are you open to absolutely everything? Or are these suggestions within certain limits? Im into mostly house/prog now, but most of MM is not really into that stuff. If you are, or are curious, say so and Im sure myself, lee, or any of the other edm heads here can leave ya a few links

I'm very open minded with regard to music. The only genre I'll *always* shy away from is mainstream country. With regards to "house/prog" (not sure exactly what that means), I'm up to giving it a shot. Here's some of the techno/electronic stuff I've listened to (not sure if it all really belongs in the genre, but oh well)
Massive Attack Kraftwerk Aphex Twin (actually own "Come To Daddy" and "Windowlicker") That being said I'm definitely interested in *more* than just this genre. I've been listening to everything from Blood Sweat & Tears to Carbon Leaf to The Flaming Lips to Tord Gustavsen..

Prog = progressive
There pretty much different kinds of edm. House usually has more of a beat, somethin to dance to, somethin you'd hear in a club type place. You'll hear a lotta weird remixs of songs (for instance I heard a remix of blur song 2 the other night at glow LOL). Prog is harder to tell, kinda mixes in w/trance to me. Anyway! I obviously cant speak for much else than this genre, since this is about all I listen to, but if your interested here are a few good sites <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.tranceaddict.com">www.tranceaddict.com</a><!-- w --> is always the site I give on forums. Under live sets they have a bunchhhh of sets, most of which are good intro's into this kinda of music. Assuming you use AIM, check the profile of cryo93returning, and at the bottom of it you should see a link saying Latest Set. Go ahead and dl that (it should be quick considering its being hosted at GMU) to get a feel for what house is. I like his set a lot, once you get past the first 3 or 4 minutes heh....he's my friend that I was gonna try to get to spin for a little bit at the car show, but that didnt work out. If ya like this kinda stuff just message me online at damnit458 and ill put all the music I have up for sharing. A lot of it already should be there, so just go ahead and pick away

Not that I'm into any one genre right now, but the most recent CDs I've bought were Keane, The Shins, and the newest Chemical Bros.
They're a little more mainstream, but I like their sound. If you like classical, I've recently discovered that the soundtrack to the movie The Village has a *great* score.

If you want you can get a copy when you guys come down here on the 19th. As a sidenote, Chan and I are pissed because all the ATL radio stations that we listen to have been playing U2 out the ass, so much so that we're tired of U2, and this sucks because they're touring again....which a year ago we would have loved to go their concert!...but now it's been ruined for us... THANKS ATL!! stoopid city.....

I listen to trance while working, mostly Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, and some ambient.
Sneaker Pimps, Groove Armada, Ben Folds and old skool Offspring take most of my other music time

Queens of the Stone Age does have a new album I believe. The name of their latest single is Little Sister.
If you haven't heard of them, The Mars Volta is a good Prog Rock band and they just released a new album but I haven't heard it yet. A funny/odd/quirky band I've been listening to lately is Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. They're Japanese and they do big band ska and a lot of covers. My favorite covers they do are Tetris, the Theme of Lupin the III, and the Theme of Enter the Dragon. For some oddball Jazz look up the Seatbelts. Points for whoever can name what they did the soundtrack for.

not that the other guys haven't already covered it like whoa, but i'm into trance/house/progessive techno as well. if you use i-tunes, you can go to the radio function, and check out "electronica"....should give you a ton of options.
some groups/dj's i recommend for good all around techno listening: BT The Crystal Method (specifically the album "vegas") DJ Ferry Corsten DJ Paul Oakenfold (his older stuff) DJ Paul Van Dyke Ministry of Sound (pretty much any set, especially the Chill Out Sessions) DJ Irish Thievery Corporation i could go on and on. those will give you something to work with. after you listen to a few sets or shows, you'll recognize some songs in them that you like, get interested in the artists who did them, then check out those artists' shows. then the cycle continues. that's how i ended up with 12 gigs of techno!

Wow. Great suggestions guys. I actually realized that I've occasionally listened to a trance stream over the 'net, mostly while coding. Its easy to listen to but not think about, which makes it an ideal background.
Gerald - I'll definitely be checking out "Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra", sounds cool. Evan - Funny that you mention Ben Folds and Offspring - was listening to both of them last night coming back from NoVA. Lee/Jeremy/Scotty/Mike/etc - I'm gonna be hitting up some of the sites and artists you mentioned while I'm working today, they better be good!

![]() ^ they usually have live shows just about every week. every Wed is North American Hardcore Movement from 6pm to about 10pm. and sometimes, they have shows live AND on video streaming straight from the club. i've seen a few and it's pretty cool. they were both from Club Avalon in New York. you have to be up late for those though.
