I know some of you ski/ride..use this thread to post if/when you're going to be going somewhere? I am thinking of going to snowshoe this weekend depending if I can find a room for a fair price. Might not be likely with this dump of snow we're getting. I have yet to use my season pass this year, and I'm going to the alps in February so at some point i'd like to get my snowboarding legs under me this year before then.

Going to Breckenridge in February Got about a half day where I could potentially snowboard but I don't feel like riding and then jumping right on a plane. I haven't ridden in years, I still have the first gen K2 Clickers strapped to my board.

Ping me if you go for sure. Whitetail is only like an hour from my house..i dont have a lift pass there but it would still be cheaper than snowshoe if i can't find people to split a room with

I'm not making much of a trip, but I'm planning on going to Massanutten this weekend if we get snow on Friday like they're calling for. I haven't even been yet this year.

Took the family to Whitetail for the first time Sunday. We were supposed to do Canaan / Timberline Sat/Sun but they are only 50% open. We pushed it to the 20th so hopefully winter will stick around and improve that.
Crowd was light so I was pretty happy, read some horror stories about lift line waits. The Easy Rider quad was 10 minutes or so in line for a couple hours but more like 5-7 most of the day. The high speed quad was 2-3 minutes at most, same with experts choice.
I really enjoyed it. We usually go to Bryce so it was certainly nice to get back into some steeper terrain, moguls, longer runs, and have a couple "drive through" parks. By that I mean you can dip into the obstacles as part of a normal run and not be stuck in the park. It was a bit warmer than we expected, we were focused on weather in Canaan and didn't realize it was supposed to get into the mid to high 40s. That said, with the main slopes facing south, conditions went to shit pretty quick. I imagine it's like this often, anything barely above freezing with the sun out and the snow just has no chance. It was mush before it even hit 40. And with mixed abilities on steeper terrain, it turned into the base ice layer separated by slush mounds. We'll go back but I'll pay more attention to the weather. Any regulars see the snow turn bad that quickly?
I want to get to Snowshoe this year also, it's been far too long since I've been. Hopefully make it out in March for a mid-week day.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

Went to Liberty the day after the big snowstorm. Twas Epic conditions for East Coast. Sorry, that is all I have for you. Liberty has less lines than Whitetail which turns into a nightmare in the mid-morning for lines.

That's pretty typical for the majority of the lower elevation (and higher temp) local mtns (Whitetail, Liberty, Roundtop). Everything freezes at night and then gets trashed as it warms up.
Definitely get out to Snowshoe - I was out on Saturday and they were basically fully open - pretty good conditions, hard pack but never thawed up or got icy. For me, its hard to even waste time going to any of those smaller, more crowded resorts. You get crappy snow, crazy lift lines and 20 second runs. At least Snowshoe has a little vertical/variability and higher number of runs...

It just seemed to turn soooo quick, quicker than most other places.
Yeah, I get that. We're lucky to have access to a house and have our skiing covered through the parents membership at Bryce. With the cost of taking four people skiing for a weekend, Bryce makes it possible for us to get a lot of skiing in. This makes it hard to pay $250/day to go to Liberty (went there a lot through middle and high school) Whitetail, etc. Snowshoe will be about $320/day but definitely worth the extra over those local ones, especially after getting a taste of Whitetail. Can't do it on a regular basis on top of all the other skiing expenses though.
We did Canaan last year too and at $60/ ticket a great value and easy day trip from out here in the Chester. Looking forward to the weekend there, just need them to get some of the fun stuff open since I can ski/board blue groomers all day for free .99 elsewhere.

I saw some pics on the FB, it was killin me! Last time we got this much snow it stayed cold and conditions were great the whole year. With the rain and 60 degree weather, it's like it never happened at this point.
