Miata Speedball? You're on.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

Fucksake i have to behonest, i talked to my younger brother tonight only because i think our grandmother is going to pass away very soon.....

However, i have what i have, which really could be worse if you think about it....however, if someone is playing with a top of the line gun and everyone else isn't...it really is such a huge disadvantage. Here's why, being a veteran PBall player. If you can't lay down as much paint as another guy as fast as he can, you're gonna get fucking owned. You know, despite what your capabilities are, as soon as you give away your position with one shot, if you can't lay down a constant stream of paint to rail the person you're shooting at, you're gonna get fuckin pwned unless you can outrun paintballs. Trust me, I've played grudge matches against people (me using pump guns against semi-autos) with far superior guns and you've got to be a total commando to win those games. I've taken shots to the face to prove superiority, and you shouldn't have to if you're willing to pay the price for a fair gun lol!!!

Sorry I'm really fucking drunk and biased towards guns that are way mre expensive than they need to be but SO much more dominant than they sghoul d be.... weeee!!!!!!!!!!!

No, see, this is why I think that there should be some kind of, I don't know, spec speedball. Same principle as a spec race series. Everyone uses the same gun, same hopper, same gear. None of that million dollar unobtanium marker shit. As a casual player, I have neither the time nor the money to buy a, I dunno, whatever the kids are using these days. That's why I like my tippman so much...if I ever wanted to start such a "spec" league--that's the marker I'd choose. Nobody gets "pwned", unless they suck. Can't blame your marker, it's the same as the other guys. If your marker sucks, it's because you didn't maintain it.

I dunno, maybe I'm crazy.

Because it promotes equal competition, lowers costs and its good for the racer?

I dont know much about paintball guns, but I bet if you "spec" things then people who want to win will spend alot of money making their equipment better than yours. Thats just the competitive nature....

Yeah, but that doesn't mean you aren't spent right out of competition. You can still be competitive on a low budget. As opposed to regular ball, where the sky is practically the limit for the budget.

I mean, yeah, you can still spend a ton of money to gain that extra "edge", but you don't *have* to.

Wow, did I actually write that? haha... what the fuck was I talking about?

You're right about the spec paintball. If you level the playing field equipment wise, it really allows your skills to show. Paintball is just one of those past times where money invested in equipment REALLY gives you a huge advantage. That's not to say that you can't have a decent gun and go out and have a good time, OR that you can't beat someone with a better gun, but it really sucks going up against someone with a DSM or Angel or the like when you've got a Tippmann lol

Rex, I'll try to get in touch with my brother again today to see if he knows where that other gun is. Otherwise, that old Spyder should work fine with a proper tune up... if you're still interested in all that stuff.

lol paintball tech shed.....

youve been listening to scott giles waaaay too much. If a kid dumps $2k into a tipman, it still wont be nearly as good as a $2k whatever gun, and probably not much better than a regular tipman. And Im sure those "spec" components could be requried to be unmodified.

Markers make a huge difference in speedball but don't make THAT much of a difference in woods games. Laying down a shitload of paint is far less important when there are 100 trees between you and them. In those instances, tactics and working as a team can compensate for lesser equipment. I've been in games where we were outmanned and outgunned and we ended up spanking them 'cause we worked together.

Speedball is lasertag with paint... and that's pretty much why I prefer wooded/obstacle games.

Even in wooded games though, you want a marker that's going to be as reliable and accurate as possible, with the least chance of breaking balls in the barrel. Like I said, and as you proved, you can overcome the handicap of using a weaker gun, but if the players are of equal skill level, the better equipment always wins. IMO, regardless of whether there are trees / shrubs in your way or inflatable bunkers, the ability to accurately put down a ton of paint is inescapably a huge advantage. The more balls in the air flying at your target, the better chance you have of one of those squeaking through their hiding spot and hitting them.

My brother's old gun, for example, would lay a steady stream of paint down with each ball breaking in exactly the same place on the target. Show me a Tippmann or Spyder that can do that.

I agree that accuracy and not chopping balls is paramount but I don't think that requires a $1200 marker to do so.

My friend runs a Sypder and I used his gun last time we played ('cause my aforementioned ring issues) and I honestly loved that gun. It was super accurate, didn't chop balls and fired as fast as I could pull the trigger. Would each ball his the exact same place on the target? No... but they were within 2" of each other.

That said, I also refuse to play pickup games because half of the players usually have Angels that mommy and daddy bought them for bring home a C average report card.

a spec tipmann league would be easy. because most of the useful mods you can do your self... polish the internals ($2) and the clicky pen mod (stolen from work)... the rest of the stuff that you can do to a 98/98c would make it an A4 marker... which you would just ban those mods. then, if you chose... could spend about another $100 to make your gas use go down...

with the group if friends i play with... we ALL use 98cs. Some of us have different barrels... some have the pen mods and the polished internals... rules are we all play with CO2, we all use busted ass cheap balls, any friend that comes out with a full auto is automatically the target of every tipman in the woods... Wink

my tipman 98c has a JandJ barrel, two finger trigger, clicky pen, and polished internals. its rugged, its accurate, IF it cuts a ball it clears itself... its one of the best low budget woods ball markers you can put together IMO.
