Can someone please post a list of the things that are going to be checked before the start of the auto-x. Secondly, does anyone know what the Crossfire will have to go against if I decide to go this weekend...the Oct event sounds good too though.

Basic tech inspection:

- tires arent corded
- no play in hubs/wheelbearings
- battery is securely tied down
- throttle return spring works
- brake pedal has pressure

I've worked tech at a ton of events only ever failed one car, for a battery not secured.

Also, doesnt matter much what you're running against, since the driver skill accounts for 80-90% of autox performance. Just go and have fun, its a blast

Here is probably more than you wanted to know about tech inspection

Tech Inspection Requirements

Safety Helmet: If you bring your own safety helmet, it must be approved by Snell in the current or two most recent ratings (e.g. if Snell 2005 is in production then, 2000 and 1995 are legal). The club provides loaner helmets for people who do not have one.

Safety Belts: Original safety belts, at a minimum are required. Shoulder belts are not required, if your car did not come with them, but you must have a lap belt. Belts must be firmly attached.

Solidly Mounted Battery: The battery must be held down properly. If it can be moved at all, it will not pass.

Legal Tires: The tires must be in good condition. Excessive weather checks or visible cord/plies will fail inspection.

Lugs: No broken wheel studs or missing lug nuts.

Brakes: The brake pedal must be firm, with no loss of pressure when held down.

Fluid Leaks: Fluid leaks will not pass inspection.

Throttle: Accelerator pedal must have a return spring and operate freely.

Steering / Suspension: The steering must be tight, with no excessive play. Wheel bearings cannot have excessive play.

Hub Caps and Trim Rings: Hub caps, trim rings and wheel covers must be removed for competition, unless they are bolted to the wheel.

Numbers and Class Markings: The car numbers and class markings should be prominently displayed on both sides of the car in colors that contrast with the paint, and should be large enough to be seen easily from the timing and scoring. Paper Numbers and Class will be provided. It is the responsibility of the participant to number and class the car. All classes are documented in the SCCA Solo2 rulebook, see BRR classing specialist to help you determine your class.

Adequate Muffler: Your car must be quieter than 95dbA measured 50 feet from the course at a place where you are under full throttle. Due to the possibility of losing sites for noise problems, this rule is strictly enforced. (If your car is quiet enough to avoid attracting Police attention, it will most likely pass the noise requirement)

Car Registration: You are not required to have your car registered for street use, but it must pass tech inspection.

Make sure all the items are checked before presenting your car to the Tech Inspectors.

Don't be modest....its a rediculously roomy quality vehicle, and the way you work it with your road rage makes it fast 8)

im going up against Cobras and stuff in my class, im gonna get stomped, but dont think of it as a compettion but more of just a fun time.

And this worries me.....

Looks like I wont be driving, my friend with the miata cracked his windshield and is getting it replaced this weekend (rock flew up from a truck, made a little indentation, came out the next day and the whole windshield cracked), and then my friend with the white gs-t lost his license and so I cant use that cuz he is down in radford and cant get the car up. Oh well..

Is there an easy up that someone could bring? We'll being a few chairs. Might as well have the MM hospitality area set up! :wink:

And would anyone be up for beers/dinner afterwards? Jess and I would love to go back to JMU and do dinner at Daves Taverna or some other classic place if others would like to.

Or... Jess just suggested we could all goto festival! :lol: :roll:

We will be meeting at Rockingham Hall (the hojo lot) across port republic at 8am. We will be rolling out around 8:10-8:15 so please try to be a little bit early.

i would love to go to dave's or even festival, but i gotta get back to cville at a decent time. i've got a softball game at 6, so i'd like to be back and get some prep time.
