Yeah, I agree its worth a bit of unwanted attention in the interest of safety.

When I took the MSF course last weekend one of the instructors told us a story about how his friend was killed. The friend hit a deer at night, was thrown off the bike into the road unconscious, and was hit and killed by an SUV. He was wearing all black leather gear.

Don't think that wearing colorful gear is going to get you seen, though.

Loud pipes save lives.

And my pipes are LOUD.

But I'm still not expecting to be seen. You know? Not an attack, just a reminder.

Good point. I've never SEEN one rider sooner than another due to what they were wearing, but I have definitely HEARD riders before others.

It can't hurt, especially if you're unconscious wearing BLACK leather on BLACK asphalt at night.

I know that I tend to not notice people wearing black/dark clothing at night. Plus, most newer jackets have reflective stripes on them which also help at night.

I figured I'd update this (because I'm bored):

Track Gear-

Alpinestars GPU suit - size 48 US (58 EU) - This fits me well, at 6'2", ~220lbs, 36" waist, 34" inseam
Alpinestars SMX+ race boots - size 46 - These fit my size 11.5 feet pretty well.
Alpinestars GP Plus gloves - size XL - These are tight as hell right now, hopefully will stretch out a little bit.
Alpinestars Tech Race back protector - size XL
Helmet - see below.

Everyday-

HJC CL-14 Helmet - Comfy and stylish Smile Needs more venting though.
Fieldsheer Attack Jacket - size 46 - fits great, looks good, and is *solid*. Very unpleasant in warm weather though.
Fieldsheer Textile Pants (don't remember the model) - lots of CE armor, big pockets, and sweaty-ass hot when its above about 80.
Combat boots.
No-name gloves.
My two feet.

Why not wear the gloves and boots on the street? I'm not interested in starting the "street gear" debate all over again but if you've got the gear, why not wear it?

So I wore the boots and gloves for the first time this morning. Holy crap, those boots are comfy. Too bad I scratched up the toe sliders on the way in

The gloves, on the other hand, will need to loosen up in the next couple of weeks, or they're going up for sale. They are right on the limit of being too uncomfortable to wear, and the linked ring finger/pinky is a little annoying (although in a crash that goes a long way towards not breaking your fingers). I'll try to report again on these in a couple of weeks.

That link is actually there to keep them from getting ripped off, not broken. Confusedhock:

I've been contemplating a similar glove and am interested in the follow up review.

I guess ripped off is *really* broken Confusedhock:

Anyhow, my pinky finger just isn't used to shadowing my ring finger so closely, so it cramped up about 15 minutes into my ride this morning. Hopefully this will get better with time.
