You've had your bike for less than a week and you've asked me to ride with you one time.
You're taking the MSF this weekend - if you're thinking about selling the bike already then maybe it was just an impulsive decision in the first place. Buying a bike is more than just "oh hey its cool, vroom vroom!!!". I didnt really think about this when I bought the FZ, because, that was basically my thought process. It is cool, but at the same time the bike will put you in a wheelchair if you dont go into it with the right attitude.
Anyways, I'm done. You can do whatever you want, we're all adults here.

i'm a bad person, that is all. we all do stupid shit, this was a little stupid, but based on my evaluation it wasn't all that stupid. i've seen far more stupid occur in this club.
i was joking about selling the bike, but seriously i'd be unhappy if i had 0 miles on it.

Sorry Mikey but you are setting yourself up with the wrong attitude. Its great that you went out and got your gear and signed up for the MSF this weekend. But you were out riding alone after your first night with little instruction and no license. Then you went and got your permit and proceeded to ride around alone. I know I wasn't around for at least 2 of those nights but its not a smart decision to just do it anyway.
Sure nothing bad has happened but you are doing several of the things that dramatically increase your chances of an accident out of eagerness. If you plan on riding long term waiting 1 week to take the MSF is not going to kill you. If it was killing you so much to wait you could've signed up for the MSF a long time ago.
You're a grown man and are beholden to no one but yourself but your actions and attitude are making us all nervous about your safety.

setting myself up with the wrong attitude? god damn you guys are full of yourselves.
people like this have the wrong attitude...

someone who wants to learn to ride (am i suddenly going to become biaggi after this weekend at the msf?), has their head scewed on fairly tight, and almost has a full set of gear does not have the wrong attitude. do you see me flying through traffic at triple digit speeds? no, i'm going the speed limit (or slower) on pretty straight roads.
i'm done with this thread, i'll only be posting links to cheap bikes for beginners.

just trying to be friends man
the MSF will definitely teach you more than what we can when riding with you. i think that you know what you're getting into by riding without a permit and i think the risk of going down is higher in the first few months, but if you're withsomeone atleast they can go for help or provide assistance in the uneventful case of a down. You're a grown man, you don't need us to tell you what and what not to do, but, again, just being friends
ps - i may go riding after work today

There's no need to get defensive, people are trying to offer you constructive criticism. Riding around without a license and riding on a permit alone when you've had no professional instruction are not decisions that any experienced rider would give someone starting out. Sure its not at the level of someone pulling 12 o'clock wheelies in traffic but its somewhat iffy.
You're gonna do what you want but don't be pissed when people call you out when they think you're doing something unsafe. You'd do the exact same to anyone else in this club.

I (Parents) have a garage with space and can keep it there for a nominal fee, hell I can lock it up in my garage if you want.

Give the guy a break!
He might be irresponsible by MM standards...but that still makes him more anal-retentive than 99% of motorcyclists. He'll be fine.
If Ross says you're being responsible enough than chances are you're aren't. How long has your permit been expired Ross?

Not that this has much to do with a first bike, but the design of the bike (colours/etc) looks pretty damn good compared to the other bikes I saw of that generation.
