It's what I'd recommend. If you want something a little more toned down then get the A* S-MX 4.

I woulda recommended the A* GPS3 like I have but I don't think they make them any more. If you want to go to eBay some places have them on closeout for ~$140 but not sure what their exchange policy is.

so i'm looking at new tires... based on reviews and word of mouth, i'm gonna go with d220s. question is, what size? stock is 120/70/17 up front, which i will go with, but rear is 170/60/17. andrew told me i ought to go with a 180/55/17, but on my generation they stepped down to a 5" wide rim (to save weight) and i've read that the contact patch is a little weird with that size combo. should i just stick with the 170?

Keep the stock size - if you squeeze a tire on a too narrow wheel, it will make the contact patch flatter, giving you less grip when you're getting your lean on. Did the VFR come with a wider wheel at any point with the single side swingarm? You could pick up another one on ebay if they did, and go with the 180.

i would say a race style for the protection. the plastic shield in the front will help with any rocks and objects that fly at you and hit your lower shin area. I had a twig fly up from the front tire and hit me there directly and it just broke and flew away, but it hit my boot after the front tire. I felt it, but it didn't hurt under the shield. Just my preference, but it's up to you.
as for the tires i'd just stick with the stock tire size.
any objections? <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8072522267&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUS%3A1">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... Q%3AUS%3A1</a><!-- m -->
i've posted on a vfr board about upgrading to a 5.5" wheel. the fifth gen (98+ has recessed bolts on the rotor, which would require modification) and i'm still waiting to hear about the third gen.

No point in going through the trouble just to get a +10 wider tire. Just replace with the stock size.
