The Daytona Project
As far as I can tell all the TD people that use them love them. What apps do they 'suck' for and why? Please explain a bit more. I need to check something on my spare 520 when I get home this weekend and then I'm clicky the buy it now...so if I need talking out do it now!

From the honda guys - they have problems of the diffs failing, axles getting stuck inside the diff, and when compared to a quaife or OEM honda torsen unit the machining and tolerances are pretty poor.

Jeff,

you're lack of procrastination and undeterred progress continues to purvey a false image of all Madison Motorsports projects. i must ask that you please cease and desist these productive activities and let your car fall into a state of infinite bustedness. thank you.

Yes, in a seach of turbo-mopar.com I noticed a post that troubled me...

The thread was about a problem with the TD axels going into the NEON OBX that a few people have had...

TurboGLH Wrote:I was cruising honda-tech the other day (don't ask) and I noticed a thread about obx products that made mention of an issue like this that plague one of the honda diff designs. They ended up making changes to the design to solve the problem, now that doesn't mean this issue applies to you as more than a few people have succesfully used obx's. But it might be prudent to pull the trans back out, and use an axle stub to examine the fitment more closely.

I hit hondatech and searched OBX. Found a few that liked them, found a few who don't. Nothing surprising there. But the big deal for me is this. A Quaife for my car cost $1200, for the strait bolt in. I'm sure the Neon Quaife is still 1000, and would still require me to hybridize. So I can save...1200-400 = $800 if I take the chance and hybrid my 555/520 together and go with the OBX neon diff. Most people do not do this simply because you must have year-matching 555 and 520 transmissions, which can cost some serious $$ to the point you could have got the Quaife. However, thanks to the Dbag who had the Daytona before me I have an 89 520...for $0.

Oh and Scotty, every time you post in this thread a little ray of sunshine comes down and hits the Daytona...it makes me smile

I got a good deal on some Eibach springs for the Tona. I know the prokit sucks but these are the springs made for the Daytona. The reason this is significant is people have been using Shadow/Sundance prokits on Daytonas for the past few years. These fit but 4 of the coils bottom out, they ride poorly, and they actually raise the front of the car up a bit. DOH! These are older (date stamped 97) springs that are the right number. SWEET!! Its the only option really avalible until I start work on custom coilovers. Springs and sensa-craps for $130 shipped.

Well, this weekend wasn't much to talk about. But there was enough for a new post! We decided to cut in the fenders (paint the parts not on the outside) and the fuel lid area before putting the new tank in.

This is the last NEW Tong-Yang fender Richmond Bumper will ever have...

$3/gal fo' life...

We also loosely hung the fenders on the car and were reminded why cheap asian body parts suck big ass. The fender is badly tweaked...you can't tell it from the pictures but it will need some re-working.

I also cussed my way though installing a Walbro 255l/h "high flow" fuel pump. It is supposed to be the latest rework of the classic 255 to allow for cooler pump temps and longer working life. I would post pictures.... but just imagine a brand new pump...in a brand new tank...

Thats all for this edition of "where in the fuck is that stupid old dodge." Comments appreciated.

so is the walbro a low pressure or high pressure 255? You put in your post l/h so im confused, can you explain this new "high flow" fuel pump? I have never heard about it. Is it maybe quieter? LOL I want a fuel pump less loud.

Well, this pump is a ford/chrysler EFI pump. So the only reason Walbro even makes it is for the Mustangs. Smile According to the TD people I have spoken with they had a problem with them burning up and being low PRESSURE. I meant to say this is the High Pressure model. Something about a new impeller design or something.
