Project E30
I cant Imagine how nice that car will feel once you get the entire spec e30 suspension set up. I'm coming down to break some things in a couple weeks.

thanks guys! I'm doing the Spec E30 suspension (at least most of it except camber changes and all that) so I can eventually race in the series or if I decide to sell the car I can sell as a partially prepped spec car.

Dont do 9's - they suck compared to 8's or 10's.

8's should be fine, remember its not a honda with shit brakes.

Try 10's - for whatever reason, the feel/feedback of the 9's suck.

If 8s can stop a WRX with fat passenger all weekend at CMP in august, they will do fine with a e30

10's are great if you have R-comps. I used them with azenis and i kept "locking 'dem shits up, yo". I think that'll be a great set-up, i'm leaning towards that for the teg for hyperfizzle.

My friend Eric and I got on the list today for our weld in bars! We are scheduled in 3-4 weeks. We're going to Bret Hamilton in Powhatan, VA. My boss used him for his H1 car's cage, along with a lot of fabrication. His work seems very good and my boss is picky on these things so I trust this guy's work.

quick question though... I want this half cage to meet the correct specs for NASA, SCCA, etc... should I use the CCR's for roll bars (pages 68-77) to give to the cage builder? Do NASA rules apply to other racing organizations?

CCR's here:

woo hoo for 3 day weekends! I got quite a bit done this weekend even though I had family in.

Removed the headliner and sunroof. There is a metal compartment the sunroof slid back into that I'll have the cage guy cut out. This will allow for an additional 1-2 inches of headroom for the rollbar. Ill also have him weld in the stock sunroof panel from the inside so it looks nice and clean from above.

I got my gauges working!! I swapped the gauge cluster from our parts car and replaced a blown fuse and now everything works except the odometer- which isn't a huge deal because I'll do all the maintenance regardless of the mileage. My temp gauge was right in the middle, a nice thing to finally know and my fuel, tach, and speedo work! Its a nice relief since I thought I was going to spend hundreds on aftermarket gauges.

I also got started on the big suspension and brake project for next weekend. I removed the front shock and spring assemblies, and cut off the brake dust shields for improved brake cooling. I also installed the front stainless steel lines.

Next weekend we'll finish the entire suspension, front CA bushings, rear shock mounts, SS lines, pads, tranny and diff. fluid, and whatever else we can manage.

use the cage rules. You are just getting the back half of a cage, to be extended into a full cage later. Im not sure what the Nasa CCR says about roll bars, but make sure you reference the roll cage section. You dont want to have to rip it out later or weld in other bars when you extend it to a cage. Also be aware of the minimum tubing diameter and thickness for the weight of your car. The spec E30 guys should know all this

The brake dust shields should just unbolt on the front.
I will have to come down and check out the e30 soon.
