Merry Christmas

CaptainHenreh Wrote:So, it's Christmas Eve, and Julie's still working, and I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

And Happy Hanukkah for all of the Jewish MM'ers.

Kwanzaa...I guess have a thoughtful Kwanzaa would be the best greeting? Hell, I don't know. Happy celebration anyway.

...

Do we have any muslims here? I'm not even sure if there's a proper 'Happy' thing for Ramadan.

...

Happy Newtonmas for all you physics nerds out there.

...

Happy Saturnalia for all you pagans. Especially you, R.J.

I think I covered everything. Smile

You forgot Festivus!!!

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

The coolest present I got was an "All-ett" wallet (www.all-ett.com). It was from Jess Smile Second coolest was a GPS receiver (from my parents). Last coolest was the set of matching "Canaan Valley Christmas 2005" denim shirts that my mom gave to my entire extended family. She demanded that we wear them to dinner on Sunday night - most folks did (not Jess and I though) and they looked like a cult. Don't drink the Kool Aid, folks.

The story of Alvis:

Quote: a wagon appeared at the gates of Fort Klugman
carrying pioneers to the frontier.
A young woman in the party called Delia was heavy with child
and though she had journeyed with the virile young men for nigh on one year,
none had lain with her; though she was comely.
And on this frosty winter's night, young Delia's water broke
almost freezing her to the seat of the wagon.
And the pioneers beseeched the soldiers to grant them entrance
so that she could give birth to her child in the hospital there.
But, due to an outbreak of syphilis among the soldiers, the hospital was full.
So there in the stable among the feed and tack and whatsit she gave birth to a son
whom she called Alvis. As was her want.
And since none of the men in the party was the father,
it was decided among them that the birth of this child must truly be a miracle!
And it was so, for above the fort there suddenly and miraculously appeared an awesome and mighty comet!
And so brilliant was its light that there came from all the tribes that the soldiers had not yet decimated:
shamens!
And they rode upon buffalo, as was their heathen custom, carrying offerings of whiskey and firearms.
And when the shamens saw the child, they were in awe! For he glowed in a light that was truly not of this world!

Next year I propose we have a Feast of Alvis party. I'll bring the ham and firearms.
