That seat is amazing.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Here is one CB350, in boxes, minus the frame & swingarm which should be back at the end of the month.

I need to start stashing money away to get the motor work done.  I hope to be riding it this spring.

Keeping myself busy with this CB400F. When I got it home, I put gas in it and fired it up, it was cold, didnt let it run too long. It mostly ran like shit but I figured it was 30 degrees outside. Today I got a little deeper into it...

Adjusting points (didnt open far enough)

Valves (all too tight)

Trying to get the carbamaphones balanced

This thing is already driving me a little mad. The seller says he went through the whole bike, and sure enough there are a lot of new parts on it - tires, air filter, brake caliper & hoses, plugs, etc. I am chasing my tail getting the carbs to balance and I'm pretty sure I have an air leak post-carb. The airbox boot clamps were all loose, and it hangs after revving it up and wont settle into a consistent idle. The #4 carb is weeping, maybe he pinched the gasket installing the bowl. There's no gaskets sealing the carb tops to the bodies so maybe thats it, too. Air screw is set 2 turns out, should be 7/8 turn (probably because of the fuckin' air leak). I guess I'm ordering 4 carb kits and boots and will break them down and see what else I find. So much for not a project.

Does the Vespa work? Just curious if you're 4 for 4.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

It did when I put Stabil in it and parked it for the winter so it’s probably broken by now.

And a bunch of shit in the house is broken so 5/5

Billet triple trees arrived, I paid for these to have made months ago. The wait was worth it though, they're beautiful. Once the chassis is assembled I'll need to take the bike back out to the fabricator wizard and he's going to make me a bracket to mount the stock gauges to these, but tucked down lower against the headlight instead of sticking up in the air like the factory mounts.

I also got a call from the powder shop to come check the sample they shot, going to get out there tomorrow morning. If it looks good I'll have the frame back next week.

CB400F got an electronic ignition plate today. The instructions said to scotch lock into the existing switched power source to the coils, what in the actual fuck why would you tell anyone to do that. Anyways, I have a pile of stuff from vintage connections so I did it properly. Also bench sync'ed the carbs and double checked my previous work. Those are ready to go in, but I cant fucking find my new carb boots, they are somewhere in the house and everything is in disarray, so I'm stuck until I find those. Once the carbs go back on we should be good to ride.

While still waiting on what to do with my 350 motor and what else breaks in my fucking house, I'm trying to get at least one motorcycle running.

I had been chasing my tail on the carbs for 2 weeks now, they've been off the bike 3 times.  I always say assume nothing with old bikes...  I finally found the culprit on Sunday - the carb slides were installed backwards on #3 & #4 by the previous owner.  Fucking hell.

While trying to figure out why the bike ran like shit, this happened.  The bolt just... backed out.  Why?  Who knows.  Mysteries of old motorcycles.  I'm going to run it back in with loctite, give it a couple of ugga duggas and replace the cover as soon as I can find one - I guess I got nothing to lose here, worst case something else is wrong that caused this and the motor has to come out.  Also have a new muffler on the way that will bolt in properly.
