"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
The new iPhone officially has no headphone jack. I'm sure as hell not carrying around a little adapter everywhere so that I can listen to music. And I guess you need another adapter to listen to music and charge your phone at the same time? What a stupid decision.
So I've only ever had iPhones as long as smart phones have been around. For you android people that are keeping up with things, what should I be looking at for comparable iPhone replacement in about 3 months? I've been keeping an eye on the Google Pixel, but I really don't know much about the various android phones.

Nah you don't have to switch from iPhone. Just attach the dongle to your headphones and leave it on there. When you want to listen to some jams, plug it in, same as normal. Only problem would be if you need to charge your phone and you wanna listen at the same time.
If you do wanna go Android, I'd recommend going stock Android with the Pixel or whatever they end up calling it. Samsung's Touchwiz isn't terrible but it will frustrate you at times if you're coming from an iPhone. Stock Android is much lower fuss and faster.

Any of the Galaxy series are pretty much the pinnacle of Android phones. Others may have opinions about some random niche Android phones but honestly since the S4 years ago (my wife still uses my S4) they have been king of the hill. My S7 is very, very good.

Because an iPhone is the only thing you plug headphones into? This move is just so shitty by Apple with no real technology advancements because of it. Thinner? Not really with that camera bulge, but even still a stupid-ass reason. New "Air-Pods" with some processor or something that allows you to go a full day... with a case. So instead of just plugging in headphones into my phone i now have to carry around another case for my supposedly groundbreaking headphones. Fantastic. :vomit:

S7s catch fire? That's the first I've heard of that haha ... I just had to look it up and it looks like it's the Note 7 and the S7 Edge not the standard S7. I would also venture to guess that people are using aftermarket chargers and / or batteries even though they are saying they are not.
I am glad to report my S7 is currently fire-free

I said it before, but I really do think you're making much ado about nothing. Moving the DAC offboard (or eliminating it altogether) is a good thing and I like it.

Like I said, no real technology advancement. Seems like change for change's sake. Or, really, just another way to secure more money from the lost adapters and licensing to cable companies to make them.

Geez people are really butthurt about this headphone jack. I thought I was just like everyone else - using wireless headphones at the gym, using wireless speakers around the house and playing music via bluetooth in the car, but I guess I am actually in the minority that hates having to plug in my phone when I want to listen to music.

When I'm using headphones they are always wired, other than my Plantronics W02 for work. I don't have no time for charging more things when I am on the road or carrying around more chargers than I already do.

I've been rocking an Android phone for about maybe 5 years now and I'm probably not switching back but I really don't think this move is that bad. I know some people who were already salty about other Apple transgressions may be pushed over the edge by this, but this doesn't move the outrage-o-meter for me.

Yeah - because that sounds fantastic.
You could have just kept the headphone jack and, *Gasp*, still use wireless headphones! If they offered some better alternative I'd be open to it, there were rumors they made their own efficient version of Bluetooth, that would make sense. To remove it, for no real reason other than to just make it thinner? That's dumb. Especially since the bulge from the camera negates any real "thinness."
Also, thinner phones are dumb. I have no idea why this is such a thing, who the hell actually wants a thinner phone? Give me something the same thickness as last year and better battery life and i'll be happy.

As an android user, AND someone that never uses the headphone jack, I just get to sit back and laugh.
BUT I am disappointed they didn't go further really. You want to get rid of ports to save space and have better water resistance? Get rid of the charging port while you're at it and make it waterproof. Make a version of wireless charging and push BT tech to the point that people with ported phones look like luddites. That's how you keep a premium product premium and give the Android folks something to chase after for a couple years. :dunno: Right now this is just an iPhone 6 without a headphone jack and a TWO EX zoom camera WOW. (if you're going to add another lens with static zoom, how about 4? 6?)
As yes, stop making the damn thing thinner. If it still needs a camera bump anyway and most people put a case on it to protect it and make it fatter, then fill that space with more battery and a little ruggedness instead.
This is all *if* the goal is to make a better phone. Which it's not. It's to sell more phones and accessories and cash out on the brand with as little R&D as possible.
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
The thought of having to charge headphones is annoying. Its bad enough I have to charge my weed smoking device via USB these days.
I agree on the port free suggestion. I thought about bailing from Galaxies but I honestly couldn't see myself without wireless charging from here on out. It's just too damn convenient.

People that complain about the headphone jack thing just dont want to buy an iPhone anyways and that's alright.
I am on the fence about upgrading my 6. Probably will.

I am on the fence about upgrading my 6. Probably will. I'm eligible for my "upgrade" in November. I would like to look a new plan with verizon to get some more data so I probably will upgrade as well. I keep getting email ads about plans with more data for less than what I am currently paying.
