Yeah listen to Jon and then yes, your modem will be a choke point once you have a high speed connection. By high speed I mean 100+-250+mbps. The other side benefit of buying your own modem is that you don't have to pay an extra $5/month to lease their piece of shit hardware.

I feel like there were a ton of router recommendations already if you do a search through this thread so I won't go that route. But I was the guy who went through a ton of cheapo modems like once a year until finally ponying up and buying a good one and it's been rock solid.

So am I calling them to discuss what they are providing me? Do most companies still have different tiers of speed for different prices? I thought they did away with that. Or am I calling to have them reset some shit? We've had them come out before and the dude plays with some stuff at the box out front and under the house and it usually gets a little better but this while dropping signal and major suckage started right after they made us "upgrade" to their new modem

Both. At least down here, TWC offers varying levels of speed for different prices. I'm getting 250+down and 25+up and we're not even at the highest pricing level. Depending on your level you might want to think about upgrading that. If you're having connection quality issues though it could be a lot of stuff, including infrastructure problems. TWC just had an infrastructure problem they identified when a few neighborhoods here were having connectivity issues. If you report it and there are no infrastructure or house to street issues then it's probably a combination of your hardware and internet speed. If you have a bunch of connected devices in your house it magnifies the issue.

So yeah, throw money at the problem of internet issues and generally speaking they will go away

Look at your bill and see what speeds you are paying for, if it doesn't specify that means it's most likely 25 Mbps (the minimum speed providers have to give these days to qualify as "broadband."

That should be fine honestly for a 2 person household, but i pay for 50 MBps because it's only 8 dollars more and fulfills my streaming needs (hell, i even host a plex server with the 25mbps up it provides.) As for modem, it should flat out say what speeds it will support, i think most go up to 150 which should be fine, unless you want to pay for super fast internet.

EDIT: Dude, once again the link i provided is a perfectly good unit to use. It's DOCSIS 3.0 and supports up to 340Mbps, there is no way you're exceeding that anytime soon.

Yea i was asking if I needed to get one of the other options for more speed or if I'd be limited by the cable company. I don't handle the Internet bill yet so I'm not sure what plan was selected but I will take a look.

Edit: the other options as far as the 3 different models of that particular modem.

You could have a connection issue. That is why I say call them up and have them troubleshoot the issue before you spend money on random parts. My parents used to have shit service from comcast. They finally came out and realized something was wrong with the line under our street and needed to trench the whole thing and run new cables (before fiber optic), but they would never actually do the work because it was so expensive. We switched to Verizon and never had an issue.

Uh so my Gear watch just showed up today. No email, no shipping notification, just a box! Good thing my wife was home...

I'll mess around with it when I get back home to Charlotte

Yea good luck. They updated the plug in last week. Got super excited. Got home, turned on watch, opened app. Connected. Sorry but the gear plug in has stopped....oh just fuck me, right. Frantically try to get into app manager to force close it while it does its best to remind of the days of playing close the ads on your pc before ad blockers were a thing.

no wonder they are giving them away.

I wonder if all that is related to their bid to try to get you to pay $5 per month and set it up as a "connected device". I'll see if I can get it to work, bit it isn't sounding promising.

Saw where the Vizio sound bars are gonna come with Google/Chromecast built in. Pretty awesome timing, was considering one for the main TV, guess I'll wait to pick one up when they release this version.

Vizio's new soundbars start at $179 and all come with Google Cast

So my Gear S2 synced up fine with my S7, maybe I'm just special! It's really cool actually. It was a little confusing navigating the interface but I figured it out after playing with it for 5 minutes. You can accomplish a lot through the phone app, like downloading apps and settings and such. Uber on your wrist is uber cool. They even have a free golf rangefinder app...whaaa? Maybe I can sell my Garmin S2 now. I'll play around with it more over the next week or so but the interface is super smooth. There is a littttttle delay for texts coming through but no huge complaints so far. I didn't hook it up as a connected device, just running it off of Bluetooth and Wifi.

Well that sucks for me I guess. Idk what's different about mine. I guess you were forced to update the plug in, right? Maybe I should use the insurance and get a new phone (to fix the cracked back) and maybe that'll do it.

Yeah that's odd, have you tried calling Samsung support? My phone updated the Gear app and it connected in seconds. It was a little confusing figuring out the calling piece, because they try to get you to activate it to be able to physically make calls from the phone I guess. Like they gave me a dial in to activate from the phone and every time I boot it up it asks if I want to do it again. But once you connect to Bluetooth it reads texts, emails etc. It also ports over all of your saved wifi connections, so it instantly connected to our home network when I turned off Bluetooth. The S-voice activation is just as good as it is on the S7 which is pretty incredible...you can talk to text back from the phone. Heart rate and steps monitor with a flick of your finger...I will say that I'm always skeptical of technology convergence because so many companies do it wrong, but this device imo was pretty clearly thought out and seamless. I have to be honest I wasn't expecting much but it is a really cool little thing, especially for $free.

I was playing around with faces last night, at $1-$2 each I could burn through a couple of Jacksons or Tubmans or whatever is on the bill now pretty quick. This one tugged pretty hard on my nerd strings:

Yea i mean I got it to connect and everything. The watch works fine, it's the plug in on the phone side that won't work which it makes it impossible to setup the watch or use the phone after the app starts crashing because the notification pops up and you have to clear before doing anything else on the phone

You should contact LG, I think they were doing free repairs.

Have it repaired, sell, $$$.

EDIT:
And to defend my android fanboism, if you want IPhone simplicity on Android, get the latest Samsung.
