Like, in this day and age do people really get a Verizon or AT&T $Droidtastic and think "oh yes, I will use AT&T Communicator instead of this button that says Email, and I would love to use VZW Navigator for another $9 per month, never heard of this Google Maps thing before!" and use/pay for the apps?

My only thought on this is maybe older people who are getting their first smart phone and have no idea.

I'd slip in an "Apple > others" but even they give you apps that can't be removed entirely. At least they prevent carrier bullshit.

I think a Nexus is the only Android phone I could stomach, just because it's so non-BS and gets updates on time, yadda yadda. Very curious what you think of the S7 though, Lee. Reviews have it pegged as a really sweet phone.
Yeah I completely agree! Like even visual voicemail, why round I pay for that when there are free apps I can download if it's really important? Phones might change but bloatware seems to be a constant every generation. I'll definitely report back after I snag one and give y'all my thoughts

Visual voice mail is pretty cool though. And free on my vzw s5. They tried to have me upgrade to premium so I could read the message as a text but nobody needs that bullshit. But being able to jump around and pause, rewind voice mail is definitely awesome.

And vzw message was cool for a few days cause I could sync my tablet so messages would come to both but it's a shitty sms app compared to the Samsung one. And then I got annoyed with texts going to my tablet all day and having to clean it up when I got home everyday. I think it still goes to it. I just never bother to clean it up anymore.

My question is how to you utilize the SD card for maximum efficiency? I have all photos on there. Don't have music. Had any app I could but many won't go or don't have the option and even the ones that do leave stuff on the phone. I think when they update, they go back on the phone anyway. I barely have any apps compared to some people but my phone is always full. And the SD card is practically empty. Is there a way to use it better or have things default to go there?

My old s5 had about 15% of the memory dedicated to bloatware. Drove me crazy.

Loving this Nexus device, so clean, many updates, very nice.

Once the camera is up to par with s7/iPhone I'm definitely interested.

We are still on old two year contracts but anytime we can move to their new contract style. The actual contract is up in November but I'll be taking over my own account this summer so I'm looking at the s7. I wonder if fi will ever be available on other phones... because I'd definitely be interested then or until their Motorola built phone is up-to-par. Don't get me wrong the Nexus is a good phone just the camera is lacking is one of my biggest gripes. Maybe I have the wrong perception though, idk.

I'm truly curious what's missing. I love Android, and hate using Casey's iPhone, but it is all in what you're used to.

I only have maybe 3 hours of using an iOS device so my experience is practically zero.

I'm in the Justin boat, I have never liked any of the Apple devices I have owned in the past, nor any of the ones I use now, but it's just personal preference. I was just given an iPad Mini for work and I don't even use it for any personal browsing because I don't like any part of the interface / browsing app. It just sits in a cubby on my desk until I have to use it :?

My guess is a lot of the stuff is plain jane Android and not modified versions like touchwiz.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

So the other day i went ahead and set up Samsung Pay and i have to say it's awesome. Aside from the places where you have to hand your card over i have not had it work a single time and it always works the first try. Best is having someone say that they, "don't have Apple Pay," i tap anyway and it works. Really is pretty neat technology and i also like that it utilizes a different card number that is virtually associated to your account.

You might want to try downloading google chrome. Not sure what a 'browsing app' is.

Safari?

Yeah there's no need. I'm not going to go adding apps on here when I'm not going to use it Tongue

Checked them both out at the store, I personally did not like the Edge vs. the standard S7. The curved screen actually gave me issues, I had a hard time focusing on stuff on the screen (which is weird, I never have stuff like that happen). The Edge is also bigger than my current phone and the S7 is almost identical in size to my S4 which is about as big as I want to go for a phone. I certainly didn't see the justification for +$100 of the Edge over the S7, at least for what I need it for.

I ended up ordering it direct from Verizon online because I got the rebates applied instantly instead of having to wait for gift cards (which I hate, should probably add to the Grind My Gears thread) if I bought it from the store. So when it gets here I'll give my review!

Everyone has been telling me to get the edge. I was like 80% decided and now I'm back at like 25% lol

Maybe I'll have to go play with them in the store again. My two problems there are that they aren't in cases and I don't even like holding my phone without a case cause it's too thin ( I know, I can't believe I'm saying it either, I can remember when we use to say it's not thin enough) and the other is that they have those security tethers which makes it awkward to hold like you would normally.

Can you take rebates over the promotion or was that something else you are getting a rebate for? Are you doing the promotion? I figured you'd get the watch even if you didn't use it just cause its a watch lol.

So I just tried to setup Samsung pay on my dad's s6 just to see what it was like and maybe take it for a test run this weekend. Well I didn't even think about cards not being supported. We use a small local bank so our debit cards are out (which is what I pay with 95% of the time) and my dad has a capital one credit card which is also not supported. My amazon chase card will be for me but I didn't really plan to use that for my small everyday purchases. Idk, maybe calling our bank and showing customers want it will help get the ball rolling. I don't want to move my accounts. I like walking into my bank and them knowing who I am. Never have to wait in lines or show ID(not sure if that's a thing at big banks, never used one) and they're pretty lenient about my access to my dad's accounts like when he asks me to do something for him or I owe him money.

Yeah you should definitely play around with them both, the Edge actually kind of made me dizzy. It's longer than the S4 & S7.

Its either or on the rebates or the watch / VR promotion I believe. The only way you can get the promotion is to switch to the new plans where you lease the phone I was told. I'm not interested in that because you end up paying a lot more for the phone and I would end up paying more for a similar data plan or the same monthly amount for less data. The sales rep wasn't happy but it only cost me $287 out the door for the phone and a case (technically only $87 because I burned up two $100 gift cards we got as one of the gifts from my company awards trip)

Where do you go for that price? Or like how do you get it? I see an option for device payment and device retail which is like $6xx or $7xx depending on which phone.

It was on My Verizon page. I had the option to switch to the new monthly plans with phone leasing and end up paying full retail or renew a new two year contract with my old plan and pay $199 +$40 upgrade fee for the S7 (or $299 +$40 for the Edge).

Did you already change to the new plans? If so you might not have the option to go back to get that price

Yea. We've been on the new plan for two years now. I'll have to log in and actually hit upgrade I guess and see what prices it spits out. Thanks.
