The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread!
JustinG Wrote:Next topic. IP cams. Just put the kid in her "big girl bed" and we wanna monitor movement.

Get a video monitor, or an ip cam. if so what does the group recommend. Would be nice to view from any device, instead of just the included monitor if we got a baby monitor.
I have 2 SD foscams, 2 HD foscams, and 4 D-link SD cameras.
I really really like the D-links. Seamless install and free cloud access with an app.
With the foscams you have to either pay for their cloud service or mess with forwarding ports (and hence security risk)
the dlinks there is some static on the audio and obviously not as sharp as the foscams but the convenience and ease of remote access dlink wins out big time

for in-house use, I have an old touchpad that sits on the touchstone dock and runs tinycam 24/7 with 4 cams at once.

WRXtranceformed Wrote:There have been several stories of hackers breaking into baby monitor cams and watching peoples kids / scoping out their house (due to their mostly non existent security). I'm all for keeping tabs on your home having just installed a security system but I am not of the mind that you should have anything other than CCTV recording video of your home. If it's connected to the internet then it's a major security risk...especially when it comes to your kids.

I realize people are going to have different feelings on this but I struggled with that before choosing not to add cameras to our security package.
the baby cams that are 'hacked' are the ones that use a static rf frequency. no internet involved. an ip cam is every bit as secure as banking, buying, and anything else you do on the internet if not more due to smaller footprint.

Is anybody looking for a Verizon router? I have the red/black one that they left me. I think they are going new for like $80-90. I'll let it go for $50 plus shipping.

With the coupon code (1599BH05) and prime it came out to $15.99. Not bad at all for bluetooth ear buds with 6 hr battery life. Solid 4 stars on Amazon. Even if they suck it's $15 so who cares?

I also have a set of the Jaybirds, they're great. Used them for a 5-day ski trip over the winter and only recharged once. Really good for anything active given how the little rubber earpiece things keep the 'buds in place. Jon, it looks like what you bought is similar so they should work well.

not bad. The rubber earpeice thingy on my jaybirds wouldnt stay on and finally got lost. none of the replacements ive bought fit. they are flimsy and sound like shit anyway. ill give these a try for yard work.

Got them today. Gotta love prime. These are worth $16. Nothing more. Absolutely no bass. Even less than apple ear buds and I didn't think that was possible. I bought them to use at the gym and I think they will be fine for that.

wasnt expecting much, but Im actually quite impressed. They sound better than my jaybirds by far and are better built. Still need to tweak them to stay in my ears better, but I recommend them for anyone looking for cheap bluetooth headphones.

I saw those on sale a few days after I bought the Taotronics set. If mine end up breaking, I'll give those a shot. They look better physically than the set I have.

Shredded my first lightening cable in 4 years. Recommendations on 3rd party cables? Prefer that the cable is longer than 3 ft, but don't need anything crazy like 10ft. Multi pack would be nice.

http://www.monoprice.com I've been using the same 6 foot cable since the iphone 5 came out. No signs of wear.

Basically, they are the shit for any cable you need. Good quality, good prices.
