Would a Sunday show turn off out of the area, non-alum attendees? I know there was talk of getting other car clubs in Virginia to come. Also, would companies still be willing to show up for a Sunday event?

Good question. Although I don't see why not. The only company last year was the crutchfield van. I'm sure the nascar people will come back and dj's like exposure so i don't think they'll be picky about what day it is. But someone should definitely make some calls and look into it.

Nope. Big Dog Offroad was there with the RTI ramp. Steven Toyota was available that day to photograph the winner.

Steven Toyota, Crutchfield, Big Dog Offroad, and that DJ. Sponsors we've usually done in the past were NASA and SCCA and a few other "grab bags" such as SBC and Taylor helped get some Cracker Barrel gift cards. Sam I'm emailing you my personal "to do list for the show" so you can pick and choose what you want out of it.

I vote for a sunday show or not the 18th (since I can't make that day)... lol.
As far as getting walked on by the school and donors or "official" events and things that make the school look good.... it happens at VT, too. It is such garbage. Sorry we're not throwing you millions of dollars like Nike is and they can do w/e they want without going through the days long painstaking proess all us students do, in addition to giving you money. (insert family guy "you know what really grinds my gears")
Sunday show sucks, no pairing with an autox. You guys have no choice in the matter though. Sounds like a day trip down and up instead of spending the weekend. Which actually may make more sense since I am out of town the next 4 weekends after that. Lock down a date and go for it.

I talked to the President of Capital Offroad Enthusiasts (Core4x4.org) and he said the group would love to plan a weekend, come down and wheel, and also enter their rigs in the show. This'll be awesome because all of the offroad guys will have something to do while the rest are cruising.

OK, so I pushed to have an autocross scheduled in Verona to coincide with the car show and now there isn't going to be a car show?
After reading this...
Quote:New Update!
Spoke with Debbie again today, she told me pretty much the Madipalooza day is pretty much a no go after speaking to other people (April 11th). So I asked about March 28th, and there is some big environmental conference that day but they have however not finalized on which lots they will be taking up, however we COULD still have it the 28th, with the catch being we can reserve C4, but if they decide they need our lot in a few weeks from now, then they get the lot even though we booked it before them. So really, our only choices are risk March 28th, be safe and get C4 on April 18th(although a NASA weekend), or try to have a Sunday show. Please feel free to post your opinion on dates!
-Also new things for this year, no more raffles... Debbie said there's some new law/rule that we can't have raffles on campus and there is no exception.
It seems like you gave up without much of a fight. Did you get your faculty advisor involved? Did you try to find a compromise? (Use a different lot or only part of a lot) Did you escalate the issue to Debbie's supervisor?
I agree that there is a certain vibe to having the show on campus, but if that isn't going to work then you need to figure out Plan B. Maybe one of the local car dealers will host you. The show will certainly increase foot traffic for them.
I'm sorry this isn't going smoothly, but if you believe that April 11 is the right date for your show, then you do all you can to make it happen. BRR is going to have the autocross anyway on Sunday and MM is welcome as always.

We are trying to do the car show on a Sunday now. Most likely the 12th (same day as auto x). Debbie is still giving Sam the run around because now she's telling him to contact other people to see if that Sunday is open. Once we get things finalized hopefully he will let everyone know.

The problem with a partial lot is JMU will not block off that "partial" lot for us. They just set up a notice and tell people to move and if people don't move then oh well for us. Happened to us my Freshman year. So two car shows ago when he had a small corner of R1. We are expecting around 100 cars as it seems the car show keeps growing and people know people. We can't just risk a partial lot.
Debbie is the coordinator of scheduling so there is really no one else to talk to or a technical supervisor of her unless we complain to the university higher ups which I highly doubt they care haha. But, we can always try if we think it is necessary. This is sadly how it has always been setting up the car show. Nothing but a pain in the ass we have just been very up front about everything this year, correct me if I'm wrong. JMU seems to love making it hard on organizations that aren't sending big bucks to the school is what it seems like or organizations they don't care about.

Everyone has a boss. Hers can't be that far away.
Well, if you don't ask the question, the answer is always "no". I would be thinking about all of the ways it might be possible to have a show on Saturday and ask about every one of them. You have nothing to lose at this point. Worst case if you complicate the lives of the the bureaucrats you are dealing with, they will think twice about being dismissive next time you approach them.

Odd, I never had a hard time picking a date or lot.
That said, I started the process at the end of the fall semester, and nagged the everloving **** out of Debbie to make sure she knew and remembered. I was the squeakiest wheel in student orgs when it came to getting the date/lot I wanted, and it worked.
Sending emails is easy, so do as Ray suggested and send a few. Don't use words referencing to "anger" but rather to "disappointment." You are disappointed that a club who has a roughly ten-year tradition of hosting this event on campus is being forced to consider alternative arrangements - arrangements that will disassociate JMU with the event. There are other lots (parking decks, really) that can be used for the conference parking that is needed on the same day. Ask if those have been considered as options for the conference parking, as attendees can park in a structure, but the show truly requires an open lot to be successful.
Shit, CC President Rose. If the true vibe is that we as a student org are being denied a lot thanks to an external conference being hosted, that's cause for concern as his (and past presidents') public image has always been "students are a priority" not "ZOMG how can we profit the most." That said, we know profit drives everything.
I'm with Ray. Email everyone you can. Be politely obnoxious. You might be surprised. That's how I got my job at the Apple Store.

This.
My old boss actually gave me the best piece of advice I've received so far, "if you're not pissing somebody off, you're not working hard enough."
While a bit crude, the point remains true; especially here. If you're not at least ruffling a few feathers you're probably not going to get what you want. Anyway, just my two cents; I'd like to see this on a Saturday since it gives me the best chance of making it

Back when he was alive, sjobs@apple.com was a good place to send some emails. Just sayin.
I totally forgot that President Rose is gone now, so emailing him probably wouldn't do so much good.
But... algerjr@jmu.edu would likely work out alright.
