Nope. There's a Windows setup tool and I've never had an issue with non-Apple stuff playing nicely on the network.

My biggest issue with other routers in the past (of many brands) is that they would work fine for six months or a year, and then just decide that handing out IPs was not much of a priority. Which, you know, is kind of a big deal.

The AirPorts have only stopped working when I unplugged them to upgrade to a faster model.

If your house has ethernet ports in the wall, you can have multiple routers to expand coverage.

• plug in one of the cables from the main router into the port on the second router you would normally plug the internet cable into
  
• use the same SSID on both routers
  
• set up the security the same, same type, same pass
  
• disable DHCP and NAT on the secondary router

Devices will automatically hand off between the routers depending on which has the better signal strength and it wont even interrupt the connection in the process.

^this..it's what i do in my house, though my primary router is a verizon wifi hotspot. The hotspot itself sucks terribly - randomly won't have a connection to the internet until restart. Also, somehow, even though it never moves, and always stays plugged in, the the plug port got finnicky.

Nice, I mean I had no issues getting enough wireless coverage upstairs with my old router so it would be good to not have to buy two devices.

Look for AC standard with beamforming. A friend of mine has had the NetGear 1900 NightHawk for about a year and has said it is great. Also, I realized on of the things that was ruining my access points was that I wasn't plugging them into surge protectors.

Anybody get or order the iPhone 6? Verizon is paying $200 for the 5 and a bit more for the 5s. I ordered a space grey 64gb only because that deal was too good to pass up. Only had to pay $150 for the 64gb.

My last router was an Asus and it shit the bed after two years. It would power for about one second and then completely shut down. I'm telling you, buy a cheaper one you'll hate less to replace in a few years.

Yes, exactly. It was just that when I was on the fringe of the first access point (let's say AP1) and was well into AP2's coverage it would still stay on AP1 since it was already connected. It works and would hand-off if I went completely out of AP1 coverage but that area where it was low coverage was frustrating when I knew AP2 was what I should be on.

So in summation, annoying when AP1 is at 25% signal, I know AP2 is 60% signal and it doesn't switch.

I've set these sorts of networks in half a dozen places. Sometimes with identical hardware. Crapshoot. Always. When it works flawlessly, it's money. I've found Android devices to be absolutely horrid at switching.

I almost snagged the Apple router against my better judgement but it only had 3 hardwired ethernet ports and I need 4. I didn't want to have to rig up something else to my central media box. It will probably explode in 6 months and I will end up with an Apple product...but meh! Thanks for the suggestions guys!

New router so money! Solid coverage throughout the house, speed test shows the speed I am paying for on every floor. Niceee...and Prime had it here the next morning! Crazy how good Amazon's shipping is getting.
