Because every forum I've seen thats littered with a very low signal to noise ratio as well as general jackassery allows big ass pics, emoticons, fonts, blinking text, etc in their sigs and its really obnoxious to read through when there's 8 lines of real text for every 30 lines + pictures in every sig as well as each page taking a lot longer to load (our bandwidth and web hosting is free).
