Noticed that the auto-dimming mirror wasn''t working yesterday. And the compass in it was off. WTF? Pulled the fuse cover, located where the 5A fuse should be, and was it blown? No, it was missing. WTF! It was definitely there when we bought the car. Audi is the only people to have touched the car. I didn't have any spare fuses (remedied by picking up a 120pc kit off Amazon for $7 shipped) so I popped the 5A from the garage door opener (we don't have a garage ) and WOOWOO working again. Where did that fuse go? Crazy. There are a bunch of other missing fuses for features I don't know we have or not, but I'm going to plug 'em all up when this shipment comes in. Couldn't hurt.
Because AUDI.

Yeah there is mini and low profile mini on top of that. Annoying.

Added a rack.
Stopped by Rack Attack this AM with plans to get Whispbars since I loved them on the GTI. Unfortunately, they were recalled mid-2013 for this car and they haven't come out with a new solution yet.
I really didn't want the classic square or round bars.
Guy introduced me to the Thule aerobars, which are much like the Whisps and a bit cheaper, but only seemingly in cost. I haven't driven yet, but they look like they'll do a good job.
Also got 20% off since I was going to price match on Amazon, but the guy didn't want me to bother
Can't wait to get the new steed dirty today.

Yum. Riding some CycloX races I see?
Yeauuuup! Bike is pretty amazing.
Rack worked well. Bike mount was a little loose due to one of the bolts being barely tight. Possible that I failed to tighten that one down or the fact that the new Thule system t-mount system allows the bolts to hardly protrude/doesn't allow you to use the locking washers so maybe it backed off? Going to have to monitor that. Might call for some loctite (which BTW autocorrected to lactate as in THE ACT OF LACTATION).
Didn't notice any wind noise, but didn't have the sunroof open as my bike was busy dripping mud on the roof.

Still digging the car, but it is not perfect (the size of a B5-7 with a reliable engine and new tech would be perfect, I think). It is BIG so handling is so slow, but being able to fit massive shit has been really nice. Gas mileage is pretty unimpressive with a combined 24 or so. About to put a 2nd quart of oil in after 6k miles. Drives great and super comfy. And it looks good.
Still not really planning on keeping it after warranty, but we'll see... Aside from the oil stuff, which apparently never progresses, it seems pretty solid. It's a lot of car for the price/equivalent payment on something newer.

Took car in for service yesterday. Was supposed to get it back same day, but they discovered a good amount of mouse nesting (PO lived in the woods) that they cleaned out so I got a Q5 loaner instead.
Took it in for:
Oil consumption. Pretty sure we only got about 1k miles in between adding quarts last time.
Passenger's side mirror groans when it moves for parallel parking purposes. Probably just some lube.
Driver's side wiper nozzle fires off the car.
Side assist system crashes now and then. This is the system that blinks really bright lights in your face if you're trying to merge and there's someone in your blindspot.
Steering shudder at low speed. Apparently a hose design flaw that will be improved with replacement, but will come back.
A GPS map update.
I have no details on anything other than the oil bit. They'll be applying the "Stage 1" fix, which includes a new gasket on the crankcase, some breather valve, and a software update. They'll give me a free oil change (it was time anyway! wooooo!), have me drive a few thousand miles, and then come back for oil analysis.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
On par. The oil issue is the only big issue and I guess I was a little surprised despite knowing it was a very common problem. Seller said he gets "around 5k miles per quart," and he seemed trustworthy... I dunno. But warranty. Only way I'd do it.
They called and said my front brake pads were low. Typical dealership stuff. I think they seeing they're out a lot of money on this job (costs me $85 deductible) and are trying to recoup some even though I know Audi pays them for the work. They said the pads were 1-2mm, but there's a wear sensor at 4mm so HRMMM. Quoted me $680 for pads and rotors. I said I'd do it myself. I'll probably only do pads since I've never understood throwing away good rotors because pads were changed, but I do know most shops (maybe just stealerships?) do that... So $102 and an hour of effort.
Aside from that, they're a really great dealership to deal with. Sunset Audi if you're ever coming down to try to work some no-tax magic.
They've fixed the nozzle, installed a new control module for my side assist, performed a TSB for the shudder, and there's no map updates yet. All good. Picking it up this afternoon.

Damn that is a shitton of oil it's burning, that really sucks. Mine isn't bad at all by comparison, it eats maybe 1/2-1qt over the course of a change? I don't even know if I had to top it up over the last change... or maybe I just forgot to check it...

Yeah, I never noticed a drop missing from my GTI. And RJ says his doesn't drink any, but I'm not sure he's had it long enough to really tell. And I have another friend with a B7 that doesn't drink any. Just luck of the draw, I suppose. Hopefully it'll just mean I get a new engine at 60k miles

They get paid for the warranty work, but compared to standard flat rate work they are losing money.
I've put ~1000 miles on mine so far (home from NH, and to Lexington, VA and back) and oil level is still nearly full and my exhaust tips arent covered in burnt oil. The PO did put some PCV parts on the car though, I dont know if that helped - http://www.bshspeedshop.com/bshstore/pr ... evamp.html

Almost through the test period on the new oil. Digital gauge hasn't budged. Maybe the new PCV valve did the trick?

F'ING! Lightly rubbed the front bumper of an older Saab as I pulled into a parallel spot last night. Super light rub so I'm thinking it'll come right out with some compound, but I did lose the equivalent of about two thumbnails of paint right behind my rear tire. No dents. F. First time I've ever "hit" someone. Guy was very cool about it (I was writing a note, but he came out from dinner right then)... Some compound and a cash payoff should take care of his damage since it's an old car.
In rosier news, nearly 1k miles since the oil consumption work and the digital gauge isn't reading any loss. I'll be taking it into them in a week or so to have them do an actual measurement.

That sucks.
I can proudly say I've never hit anyone else, ever.
However, I've crashed into my own car on a 4wheeler. I've backed my own car into my own motorcycle. I've almost dropped my own motorcycle onto my own car, and I've dented the roof of my car because I thought I could use it as a ladder as long as I was barefoot.
