Lots of folks have been hatin' on those... I haven't pushed them very hard on this car (yet) so I don't have much of an opinion, but I thought they were all the rage just a couple of years ago. Oh well. They were on the car when I bought it, and they have tread, which is good enough for me at this point
712s have the same grip as 711s, none. good luck with that those wheels look hot though.

mongooze Wrote:I've got some decent Kumho Ecsta 712's on the stock rims now.
Don't even bother. That's what I have on my 'street' wheels. I've done a few track weekends on them and many, many autocrosses. They SUCK DONKEY BALLS! Just don't even waste your time. Just get another set of wheels now and put some decent street tires on them (TW ~150-200). Then when they go you should be ready for R's. All depends on if both of you intend to double whore the car, then you might want to run through 2 sets street tires.
I had the same problem finding 17x9's that were both light and cheap. About the best I could do was 21.5 lbs and there were only 2 wheels that fit that, real 95 cobra r's and the Konig's that I got (the steeda ul are made by konig).

I'm with John on this one, I don't understand people being down on the 712's. I do remember a fairly recent article in Grassroots where they thought very highly of the 712's, being one of the only tires they tested that got nice and sticky when hot instead of just overheating and falling apart. Treadwear for the street is decent, wet performance (assuming you have some tread) is great. I enjoyed them very much on track. I like the Azenis better for the track, but the 712's are a more reasonable street tire. What other non R-compound tires that are this cheap do you guys like better?
oh, and just to stay on topic, I have no clue what a track weekend costs me.
Yokohama AVS ES100... not exactly "that cheap" but they are more daily drivable than Azenis...

If y'all don't wanna share the room with someone else then maybe she can pay the bill and you reimburse her half, or vice versa. Christina's working no reason for her to have to pay for a hotel room.
.RJ Wrote:Usually I split a r00m with 3 or 4 other donkeys @ $65 per night - Er, I guess that would make the cost $30-$35 and not $15. "My bad" 3/4 of the weekends this year has been you and me snuggling up in a room and splitting it, which reminds me, you still owe me for Beaver!
Evan Wrote:you still owe me for Beaver!
Uh, can you guys get a room? Oh wait...
Matt, I'll talk to christina and see if she wants to speak with laura about it. I didn't even think about that before. I've got to figure out some way to get cost down and still enjoy XP10's and RA1's .
712's blow ass on a heavy car, maybe that's the difference. Yes, they are great in the wet, but I can never get them to stick in the dry. I wish I had spent the few extra $$$ way back and got the Goodyear F1's.

that would be a no. Can I get them in 17x9 for less than 170 each? I'm going to need rain wheels/tires soon

Is that all you paid for the Konigs? That's not bad at all, and only a couple pounds heavier than those 5Zigen's that I'm looking at - which are more like $270 each... I think we have the same bolt pattern, 5x114.3 mm - whats the offset on the Konigs?

Yup, backspacing is 6", bolt pattern sounds right. If you ever get the pile to a track weekend you can test fit them if you want, heck if we get a chance you can take them out for a session .

John, those wheels are going to look terrific on the Z. As for cheap 275s, I use Kumho MXs that I order from Tirerack. At ~110/tire, that is the cheapest I've been able to find. The 712s will do, but they aren't exactly the best available.
Dave Wrote:John, those wheels are going to look terrific on the Z
Which are you talking about - the 5Zigens or the Konigs?
Tirerack says $156/each for the Kumho Ecsta MX in 275/40/R17 fitment: Tirerack Search Results
(Sorry everyone, as usual, I've completely jacked this thread... )
I like the 5Zigens for the Z. You should have somebody do a photochop of your car with the Zigens on the front and Chad's on the rear so that you can figure out what you want.

And j00 still owe me for the pants and dinner somewheres... i'll punch you in the nuts and call it even.
The free weekends balance out the ones i split w/ j00, so $35/weekend avg

And j00 still owe me for the pants Does anyone else find it disturbing that they're talking about owing eachother beaver and pants? What is it, Evan got RJ some Beaver cause he felt sorry for him, and RJ got Evan some pants cause he thought his ass looked sexy in them?
