apple used their own shittier version of gorilla glass.
I had the casio commando before my winphone. I literrally threw it against a wall like a baseball trying to break it when i was done with it, and it didnt break. It fell down stairs, got ran over, etc etc. Wish they updated it more often. I am not sure if they have the 4G version of it out yet.

I have had only one other smart phone. The EVO 4G I am trying to hock on ebay. It has been GREAT and I have never broken it. However it has always been in a Seidio Convert case and I have purchased two of those at $50 each and warranted one. I got the same kind of case for my iphone 5 and it was about $30. Great case and it feels very protected without being way huge like the otter box. I guess the case and holster makes all the difference. I got insurance and a case because past experience proves I am HARD on a phone. In my dumb phone days they were lucky to make it 6 months. I dunno, time will tell if it was a good decision or not, hate to not have insurance and need it.

The fact that a newer model broke more frequently than older ones should raise your eyebrows.
These are older articles, but if it was bad enough that a class action lawsuit was filed... (ultimately it got thrown out)
Even the Apple forums are teeming with frustration:

I think it's great that you and Ryan have kept your Apple products in a bubble but for the rest of the world who use them there have always been issues. I watched my buddy's wife crack her iPhone screen just by bending down while it was in her pocket!! Seriously!! The pressure from her jeans cracked the screen (she is not a big girl :lol

I've dropped my iPhones a couple of times and never had one crack. I know people who've managed to crack one, and I know people who've cracked Android phones. That said, both of my iPhones developed mechanical issues at some point while I was using them. My 3G's microphone died, and my first iPhone4 just stopped charging after about 20 months.
That said, for something I use every day I know it's not going to be indestructible. The durability wouldn't stop me from buying another iPhone (although I'm probably going Android with my next phone for other reasons).
If you need ruggedness, definitely get the S4 active because it'll certainly be more damage resistant than any regular phone. Especially when you consider it's water resistant.

How about a CNET test? Iphone seems to lose in every single instance in terms of durability to the standard GS4

Definitely going to be my next phone. From what I was seeing you can basically record / take photos underwater.

S4 active seems perfect. Ever have an 11 month old treat your cellphone like a teething ring? The water resistance would be beneficial.
oooh! fanboi wars are fun!
Mike Wrote:if anything (really reaching here), an iphone is more likely to shatter because it's so much more solidly built
thats Apple user logic there.
Add me to the list of never-cracked-a-screen on an android device (or any device), and my nexus 4 uses a glass back too. Its worth mentioning that not only are android phones larger, and hence larger surface area to crack, but there are more of them out there than iphones, so anecdotally there should be more cracked androids.
its ironic that so many iphones shatter considering just about everyone i see who uses one puts it in a ginormous otterbox case that looks like its built for war.
I love the idea of the s4 active, but they fucked it up with physical buttons and a lower quality LCD panel unfortunately.
Haha...this Google targeted ad popped up on my forum screen as I came back to it:

Going from droid to iPhone has been tough. They both have their strong points but nothing is perfect. My latest gripe, any iPhone user figured out a download or mod to put directional arrows on the keyboard?

you'd probably need to jailbreak for arrow keys.
i use this case and have always used similar. again, no breaks and retarded amounts of usage. i also don't drop it... ever. maybe some people aren't meant to have nice things?

funny timing on this, I dropped my Lumia twice over the past week directly onto concrete. The first was from about 3 feet up, right onto the corner and the second was from about 4 feet up and flat on it's face. Barely a scratch.
Friend this past weekend tossed someone his iPhone to change the music they fumbled it onto the carpet and it somehow cracked.
Honestly, it's probably more accumulation of hits or some other weird factors. The fact that we see more cracked iPhones is probably because there is more of them. Who knows.

Apple does still have the largest share of the tablet market (+11% over Android devices) and is also way more profitable....but that is kind of not surprising.

+1 including tripped drunk and sending my S2 sliding 20 feet down the pavement into the street. I've also never used a case.
A coworker got the S4 Active and returned it for an S4. Comparing it to my S4, the screen was just too dull for his (and my) taste.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

yes, we are talking iphones vs, all "androids" not just one model.

Ditto, probably gonna snag a couple. One for the living room and one for Averie's room. Have been contemplating doing netflix again since they have a lot of kids content, so the 3 months free subscription may help me evaluate if its worth it. May start buying movies digitally through the play store now too, slightly cheaper than the blu rays. My biggest issue was I couldn't watch my play movies on the TV without having to plug the laptop up, and Amazon Video won't stream on my mobile devices, so I only rented through my blu ray player never purchased anything.
I was honestly expecting a $100 price tag, but $35! Why the hell not.
Why not just rent movies from redbox/itunes? Do you watch them more than once?

The movies I buy I watch more than once. Otherwise I am sticking with the rentals, but I may go through Play now, cause it looks about $1 cheaper than Amazon or Directv On Demand.
Edit: Looks the same price for HD across the board on most titles.
