Project: 2012 DGM WRX
Maengelito Wrote:As much as its been debated, I don't really think there's a good double duty track/street pad, especially for a heavy car with some power. The Carbotech XP10 is a fantastic pad for the track though so I would definitely recommend that. I would also get a set of dedicated rotors too and not reuse your old street rotors.

Thanks Maeng,

That's what I have been reading as well. Would you bleed your brakes on every change of pads and rotors, or just after using the track set?

Just put some good fluid in beforehand and you won't need to bleed at every pad/rotor change. Its not a bad idea to bleed them every once in awhile though.

Which would you recommend, standard or slotted rotors?

I'll been looking at the DBA 4000 series - slotted

Find the cheapest rock auto rotor blanks you can find and use those. I always laugh at street guys who buy ~200 rotors when I buy the $30-40 blanks.

Ditto.....no need for cross drilled or slotted rotors.

Dailies or autox/road? RS3s take heat abuse a bit better, but don't last as long in terms of tread as Dunlops. Z2 is just the new version of the Z1. I have always loved Z1s so out of the three I would get the updated Z2s

Only reason I ask about the Z2 vs the Z1 is I have been reading mixed reviews on the Z2s. Some say they are better than the Z1s and others say they dont match up to the older Z1s. Didnt know if anyone had experience with the Z2s as of yet since I know they are newer.

Paul and I installed the invidia catless downpipe and invidia q300 catback exhaust Friday night. It sounds great but I had to fly out of town Saturday morning so I haven't really driven it. I get back into town tonight and will likely drive it around a bit and then post up my thoughts and hopefully some photos and a vid or two.

Photo from this weekend's cars and coffee.

Granted it isn't really of my car, but mine is in the background. Still kinda cool when you see your car on the web.

okay, I installed the Process West TMIC yesterday. The install went pretty smooth with only a couple hiccups.

The kit comes with new hoses and worm clamps.

Well today, I drove the car to the office. Everything seemed fine, I was driving easy (shifting at 3k rpm). Once I was on route 28 and was in 5th gear, I decided to test the car out. I put the fun pedal on the floor to see how the car was handling. Once I hit about 3500 rpm - 4000 rpm, the car sounded like it was having fuel cut out issues and the car would stop continuing to accelerate.

I believe I have a boost leak issue. I think it is caused by the hose running from the intercooler output to the throttle body. I havent had a chance to look at the worm clamp to see if it slipped off.

I am looking at ordering some t-clamps to replace all 4 clamps on the intercooler piping.

Anyone else with turbo experience ever had an issue like this?

No experience with IC boost leak... but out of curiosity, why upgrade your TMIC? Still stock turbo right? Setting up for future plans, or is there a deficiency in that WRX IC I dont know about?

more so for future plans. I will also be doing a protune soon since I am now Stage 2+ and wanted to assist with the tuning process by having a larger intercooler.

Most likely a boost leak. I've had it a few times on my WRX after changing around intercoolers so frequently. Look for the hoses from the y pipe first, if that's not it then make sure the clamp is tight on your other one. If you have a blow off valve there is a hose that sometimes gets pulled (assuming it's the same as my 02) that would come apart every once in a while.

The only thing I can think of that was similar that I dealt with was I blew off my blow off valve once on the old WRX  One of the bolts was stripped somehow and it popped off and basically killed the car on a test run.
