The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread!
That's my finding too. Macbook Air might be my next machine. And by next machine I think I mean I'm getting one from someone who resigned this afternoon! Woot.

I almost bought one, but then went for a conventional laptop with big ass screen and big ass processor instead. Every once in awhile I wish it had a touchscreen, but that's mostly because I'm terrible with a touchpad and have gotten used to screen swiping with my phone and tablet.

I think it's a little early to proclaim RIM dead. No one expected them to revolutionize anything, but they've at least shown they're willing to change. Nokia on the other hand...

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

no, RIM is dead.

will be bought by [someone] (MS?) for chump change in a year or two, will be killed off, and branding will be used for enterprise messaging.

Selling all your patents to triple your stock can't keep them alive forever.

What you alluding to about Nokia? The new 920 is fucking tits. As soon as it comes to verizon I am getting one. A couple guys here have gotten one on ATT who are pretty dedicated iphone users. Also as a software developer, Qt is fucking awesome http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Qt/Tools/

That's because "everyone" continues to think of AOL as a company who provides dial-up internet and nothing more. I'm sick of hearing "oh, wow, I didn't know they were still around" every time I tell someone where I work.

I cant think of a single time where I thought "damn, I wish I could mash the screen with my fingers and make shit happen on this laptop I'm using".

My opinion here is probably invalid since I still havent bought a new laptop

So, hey, I was given a Galaxy SIII to play with for a day or so. Someone tell me what to download and tweak to make it cool. So far, I have my work email and Spotify. How do I change what appears in the notifications bar (I know the headphones are plugged in, stop showing me "apps that use them") and where do I get cool widgets?

Well, I found the built-in widgets and managed to start customizing this thing. It's kind of a moot point since I'm giving it back in a day or two, but I'm getting a feel for things. I don't think the software is as polished as iOS in some places, but I think it's worthy of being a work phone.

How do you guys think Samsung will be about doing OS updates as Google rolls out new releases? It's up to the manufacturer if they want to continue supporting the device, right?
