Not when you're used to bigger.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

so... after a month of using this thing for a few hours a day, i have grown to hate the nexus 7.
basically comes down to: it's too small. there is some magic number between 7 and 11 for an uber portable and useful device. i have yet to find it. the display isn't very good. I SEE PIXELS. cheap build quality. mine rarely leaves my desk so no problems yet, but numerous coworkers have had theirs literally fall apart. i miss my ecosystem (read: app store chock full of non-FTP and indie titles that don't suck). the app store is a mess. in order to download a vpn client from a reputable company, i had to sift through a dozen or so versions for different devices and oses. android is getting better, but still pretty buggy garbage (got a chrome icon stuck on ALL of my "pages" that was not functional or deletable, the VPN options display off the screen [just a polish thing... there are many more issues like this], and so many "things" aren't clickable since there isn't a standard device size... couldn't imagine using some of these apps on a phone). granted, this last one is the case on really shitty apps on ios as well, but "really shitty apps" seem a lot more prevalent on android. going back and forth between an ipad3 all day, the ipad feels like a breath of fresh air. interestingly, while android tablets are getting better, the ipad market share continues to increase... and the number that shocked me the most from yesterday's apple fap-a-thon, 91% of all tablet web traffic is from ipads (with only a 62% market share). what i gather from that is either android apps use a lot less bandwidth or they suck, and people don't use them. ... and onto phones... the iphone5 isn't anything spectacular. yes, i will be getting one. no, not because i'm certain it's the absolute best phone out there, but i'm fully invested in the apple ecosystem, it doesn't suck, and i'm due for an upgrade. it makes sense for me. the phone market is much more competitive than the tablet one.

While I disagree with you on the 7 (love mine), I agree about the iphone 5. I don't think it's the best phone out but I will be picking one up because I also gave an upgrade and I am tired of my DROID and all its problems. I want a phone that will do what it's supposed to and this seems like the best bet.

I'm waiting for the Lumia 920, my brother has the 900 and loves it. I have zero apple products (yes, not even an iPod) and all windows, so i guess it is an ecosystem thing.

I think it's a big factor. The Lumia 920 looks great, WindowsPhone is cool, but I'm so heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, that it would be a hassle to switch away. And, I'm with Jon&friends -- I recognize that there are better phones from a hardware specs perspective. But... cool as Android is, it isn't as polished as iOS, and I want a phone that "just works" all the time. My iPhone 4 has held up very, very well and aside from occasional glitches that require a reboot of the phone (as any smartphone will have), nothing major has happened to make me go "awfuck I'm switching OS's." The other thing that bugs me -- and it's what you get for licensing your OS to so many OEMs to make the hardware -- is how Google can release a new cutesy-named version of Android, and you get it when you get it. It's a guessing game. When Apple releases iOS 6, everyone who's phone can handle it will get it on September 19. Boom, done.

Anyone here with a tiered plan please chime in:
Verizon is giving me the boot from my unlimited plan if I use my upgrade tomorrow on the iphone. For the same price I pay for my unlimited plan they are going to give me and my brother 6gb to share. Is this enough between iphone users? How much data do you guys use? They say both of us average around 5gb together. I figure this should be enough if I can teach my brother to use wifi when he is home or in a wifi zone. Anyone with verizon? How much do you pay/what do you get? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

i don't have verizon and i don't know pricing, but i did hear you can keep your old unlimited plan, but you won't get over-the-air facetime. don't know where i read it or any more details.

In order to get a new phone they are dropping your unlimited plan. If you happen to find a link to that I'd like to check it out. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

I'm a fairly heavy user of phone web, video, facebook, games, etc. and I use about 1.2 gb of data/month. I always use wifi at home (and dl/update apps at home) but generally cell everywhere else, including work.

I never use more than 1.5 GB or so. I'm on AT&T so I get to keep my grandfathered "unlimited" plan (5 GB cap I've heard). Just leave WiFi on and have it remember your networks, and you're golden. I'm on WiFi at home, at work, at my parents' place, etc. so I never really have to worry.

With all the WiFi available I use very little data. About 1-1.5gb a month. Wife and I share 4gb. Shut off the auto update in the market place or switch to WiFi only. I only update over WiFi, and rarely DL apps over 4G, mostly because I've already found all the apps I want.
I love the unlimited talk now, will be dropping our home phone come next month.

I decided to save the $5/month to downgrade to 2 Gb. I lose unlimited forever, but I decided not to pay now for something I may use when I have no idea when. JustinG Wrote:I love the unlimited talk now, will be dropping our home phone come next month. I probably use 100 min/month and don't have a land line. If I want to talk to someone, it's usually a video chat these days. I fear the day they push me to an unlimited talk plan.
