Finally got my permissions to purchase handguns (x3). Apparently for a rifle or shotgun, they just call and check your background real quick. Too many gangsters here i guess with handguns so the process sucks unless you have your CWP. Looked at a couple of online stores but the local transfer fee is $52.00 which seems kind of ridiculous. May just go in there and haggle prices on their gun again...but the time I get a decent deal online it's going to be negated by the fee.

I have been looking at the Shield that you recommended but I can't find it really anywhere. There are a few on the auction sites but they are all $500+. Out of principle I don't really want to pay that much of a markup over the MSRP.
Any other recommendations for a good handgun for concealed that I don't have to search for? I keep hearing that revolvers are the way to go, but after shooting my buddy's .38 special at the range this weekend and seeing how woefully hard to aim and inaccurate it is even from short distance I am not sold on that.

FWIW, I have the LC9 and like it so far. The biggest complaint is the long trigger pull, and I'd agree. It makes a consistently accurate shot quite difficult (that's relevant...at 30' I'm not able to put a round through a hole, but I can still hit a torso with 7/7 rounds). When I'm at the range, I basically just preload the trigger to what I've learned is the threshold as I am aiming, then get my target, then finish the pull. Doesn't take long. That said, I still tend to go low/left. (plus I'm a gun n00b which I'm sure has a lot to do with it!)
The plus side of it is that I feel it is a very safe gun. No way could my 2 year old actually get the trigger pulled all the way back (if he managed to open the lock box). Also, no amount of jarring, dropping, etc, is going to accidentally set off the trigger. It won't fire w/o a mag, and it has a very obvious (From the side) indicator when a round is chambered.
You can also get a nice Crimson Trace laser that is built for it.
I've shot several hundred rounds of the cheapest Walmart ammo I can get, and not one misfire, jam, or anything strange.

i like the ruger especially that it has a manual safety but i know a couple guys that have them and they jam all the time - good to hear yours doesnt pete.
buds gun shop has the kel tec in stock for a good price so i need to get around to just ordering it

I love the Kahr I bought. I picked up a CW9 because the price was right and it seemed to fit my hand the best. Plus, a coworker of mine works at a gun shop and said they were nice, and the owner of the gun shop he works at carries one.
My only complaint is that I didn't save up a little more and buy a higher end model. There's nothing wrong with what I bought though. I would certainly recommend a Kahr product to someone looking for a small, quality, carry piece.

Definitely love the ridiculous mag capacity too haha...so unnecessary except for zombie attack.

I called a guy selling a Shield on gun broker, but he wasn't willing to accept a buyout or accessory package deal to close the auction. Guess he's gambling that the price is going to spike toward the end of the auction

I still love my PF9. Works great as a truck gun and when I want to shove it in my pocket I can. I keep it in an uncle mikes pocket holster. The only thing I didn't like about the PF9 was the break-in period. I know they don't call for one, but I had two jams in the first 100 rounds. Went through ~100, cleaned it real good and it has never jammed, FTE, FTF or even hiccuped in the last 1200 some odd rounds of cheap ammo mixed with quality hollow points, etc. that I've put through it.
As for a holster for a full size, I sent my crossbreed (originally for the pf9) back to crossbreed and had it fitted for my glock. I love it. A little pricey, but a very quality holster.

Won the auction on a Shield 40! Paid more than I wanted to for it, but less than I would have paid for the Kahr here at a Charlotte gun shop (prices here are inflated like crazy for some reason).
Should probably have it in about 2 weeks.
Edit: Also found a local gun shop that won't rake me over the coals for the transfer fee ($15.00)
