Mostly the threaded barrel was because A: I liked the look and B: to differentiate my M&P from Kaan's since they are otherwise identical. However, "soon" is relative, and I think a suppressor will be my next big purchase. I have an industrial lathe, but no idea how to use it. But a Form 1 suppressor is a good reason to learn. So Step 1: Form my trust. I'll do that after I move.

If I buy one it'll probably be a Silencerco Osprey.

Same results, except it seems foolish to apply for a 200 dollar stamp and a 6-8 week wait just to get 3 or 4 shots out of it. Not sure where I'd engrave the serial number on a plastic bottle either.

Now, cost. The first thing for a suppressor you have to pay is the Tax, which is $200, payable by check, to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. They don't have anything to do with the A or T anymore, just the FE. After that, you have to pay for your suppressor. They vary in price. The Silencerco Osprey 45 that I'm looking at (.45 so that I can run 45ACP or smaller) MSRP's for $849. And, unlike firearms, with suppressors what you see is generally what you pay.

So let's compare:
$849 (suppressor) +
$200 (tax) +
$35 (Class 3 transfer fee, may vary)=
$1084

By contrast, my 9mm AND ALL THE STUFF I DID TO IT:
$549 M&P9 +
$120 Apex DCAEK +
$88 Threaded Barrel +
$22 Thread Protector +
$40 N82 Tactical Holster =
$819

So yes, suppressors are an expensive game, especially when it's fundamentally no different from a car muffler, and contains less than $100 in raw materials.

Well, shooting with a suppressor is a lot more polite. It's easier on the ears, (like, A LOT easier) easier on the surroundings, and allows you (in some cases) to run without ear protection, increasing your situational awareness which, when dealing with deadly devices, is always a good thing.

It's why I never understood loud-ass racecars.

How else would you shape a suppressor? I mean, it's a sealed volume to allow for the expansion of hot gases that would otherwise create noise. A cylinder (aka: Horsecock) is a pretty efficient way to do this, and allows for them to be manufactured without complex machining processes.

In fact, the Osprey design is more 'squarish' because it was a way to increase suppressor volume while not "blocking" the front sights. It is not as efficient as it would be if the same volume were in a cylinder, but it's more efficient than a cylinder that did not block the stock sights.

Funny, because it's actually the opposite of true. If anything, a suppressor boosts the speed of a projectile (though not by much). If anything, I'd have a suppressor affect accuracy if I were designing a video game...
