I wouldn't recommend Hatfields for that, he appears to do mostly newer stuff, and I'd stay away from Clarke Bros, even though they do some basic gunsmithing. I've heard some good reports from Northern Virginia Gunworks, might be worth a call: 703-644-6504, name is Sandy Garrett.

No, it's an MSAR STG-E4, a 100% Made-in-the-USA copy of a Steyr AUG, that takes AR mags instead of proprietary Steyr magazines.

So this gun has been in my family for...forever as far as I know. I know my grandfather got it from his father and gave it to my dad at some point. Mom told me I could have it a while ago but I've never done anything with it. For as long as I can remember (and as long as my mom can remember) the stock has been cracked and it has not been fired in probably 50 years. First off, I have no interest in shooting this gun, but I would like to at least make it holdable. It is a muzzleloader that is a good 5' or so in length. It is heavy and thus can't be held with the stock cracked. I'm interested in your thoughts on what it would cost just have have another stock put on it, or possibly have this one repaired to the point that it could at least hold it's own weight? I'm not super concerned with increasing/decreasing it's value as I won't ever be selling it; however I would like to keep it as original as possible. Thoughts on costs?

What I would do is buy a NEW stock from: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://gunstocksplus.com/precarved.html">http://gunstocksplus.com/precarved.html</a><!-- m --> and carefully remove the old one, wrap it in some linseed cloth, and keep it. It also looks like you're missing your trigger guard, and obviously that screw in the bottom is not original.

It's a tough call. My initial impression is that stock is beyond repair, but if watching Pawn Stars has taught me anything it's that doing it yourself will destroy alot of the value it had. On the other hand, if you're never going to sell it, maybe you should restore it. It'd be a nice "fireplace" piece.

A little after christmas wheelin and dealin landed me with a lightly used (about 15 rounds) all black Mossberg .270 bolt action rifle with a Bushnell Sportsman scope. Sighted it in yesterday in about 8 shots, very nice gun with a very smooth bolt. Pictures to follow at some point.

Nothing. I acquired the gun more as a favor than anything. My twin brother really wanted a pistol to keep at his new house in Charlotte. While he isn't in the ghetto by any stretch, one of his neighbors houses was broken into a few nights ago. That .270 was his only gun. He "traded" me his gun, scope and 80 rounds of ammo for my rock island armory 1911. Given that I already have 3 other pistols adn the .357 is what I keep next to my bed it seemed fair enough of a trade to me. I've been much more into rifles for the past while anyways, so it seemed like a good time to give the .270 a try.

Next I want to pick up some form of a .223 rifle to play with.

i had a nice little ruger that i bought at walmart back in college. dirt cheap, shot pretty well, and fairly decent looking.

WTF? They are saying AK-47 for affect and it pisses me off bad. It was a 7.62 cal bullet...that could have been fired from any number of weapons. The bullet is used in several different cartridges as we all know. Fucking bullshit.
