more pics of the GOLD Elise!!
The tesla would be an interesting drive. Certainly not nearly as fast as an Elise since its so much heavier, but the electric motor must be a cool feeling and no shifting

The Tesla was actually faster in a drag race with an Elise on an episode of Top Gear by a large margin and turned a lap time that was 8.5ish seconds faster than an Elise. In fact it was less than a second slower than the Exige.

I'm pretty sure that in the Top Gear I saw, the Tesla handily won the drag race but the Lotus kicked it to the curb when they compared them on the track.
I dont watch top gear but yeah i wouldnt be surprised if the torque and no-shifting of the electric motor made it faster in a straight line than the shitty toyota 1.8.
but I doubt that the extra 800+ pounds did it any favors on a road course
here is the top gear part...

ah, looks like the elise is a 135hp euro elise.
still, almost as fast as an n/a exige is much faster than I would have thought given the weight. that electric must really have some grunt. (for 55 miles anyway! :p )

The elise was on a wet track.

The track was moist for the Tesla too. Do you think a wet track would account for 8 and a half seconds? I'm not being facetious I'm just honestly curious. Especially considering the Tesla didn't have ideal conditions either.
Remember too, the Tesla's suspension was built by Lotus. It is heavier and certainly not the most ideal car for a road course but it did very well for what it is.

Did you watch the episode? It was mostly dry for the tesla laptime with a few damp patches. It'll affect laptimes, but its not huge. Nowhere near wet.

I did watch it, that's where I remember it doing so well. I honestly think the acceleration differential between the two and the similar suspension setups would still leave the Tesla on top.

Yep, it would probably still win, and its a cool car... just not "zomg 8 seconds faster a lap!"

the elise should be pretty close to the na exige lap time. In the lotus challenge series that they run the na elise and na exige run almost equal times. Apparently the elise is faster in a straight line due to lower weight, but the exige has the extra downforce throughout the track. Really depends on the driver and track.

I remember back in the day Nathan at TurboXS was talking about turbocharging his Elise. I don't know if he ever went through with it or not though. That car has to be insane to drive with a ton of boost running through it!
My only REAL complaint about it is that I have never heard an aftermarket exhaust for it that doesn't sound like a ricer fartcannon. There is a guy in my neighborhood with a red Elise with some kind of exhaust and I always think it's some shitty Civic racing up the street in front of my house

Real quick back to the Tesla, I would totally take one. 200 milesish to the charge but hey, unless im driving to school that doesn't concern me too much.
