My car usually doesnt go over 115 and I do a lot more rolling that getting rolled, and if maeng is getting to redline in 4th then he is going 107-110. (And I doubt you ever touched 120, my wrx barely got above that)
More power will make you faster, but there is a cheaper way.... Wink

since i'm flat footed from 5-10 aside from a quick lift for 6 (i kill everyone/everything through this section), that leaves me with improving on 1, 2, 3, and 4. 1 and 2 are at the limit of traction s throw those out... 3 and 4 i close on most people, but there is a hair more to be had... they aren't going to make that big a difference since i'm obviously hitting them pretty well.

She was racing last year in one of the kingrat rentals... I may have used the chrome horn a few times on her in qualifying :lol:

And of course I have instructed with nasa for many years.
Im not trying to call you out as slow, just saying that you will get faster and you dont need more motor to be faster. Some of my first weekends in the instructor group was an eye opening experience, but I got a _lot_ faster and if you keep getting seat time so will you.

because uh... i've never missed a shift? and my rev limiter functions? and the motor is bone stock w/ 120k miles on it?

She passed and I lapped her every race last year, sometimes twice.

No because of all of MM thinks we should be drivign stock miatas all around the track. Just because that may be the best way doesnt mean thats what people want to do. Sorry, when im closing in on a brand new viper in the corners and then get on the straightaways, I dont want to be completely rolled, I dont mind losing some car lengths that I can catch back up, but being obliterated loses a lot of its fun. Plus its fun to blow by you miata and civic guys even if you are keeping up in the corners. :lol:

nothing wrong with it at all, Mike is just coming across as though the current motor is holding him back, I dont think that is the case.
But if a bigger motor for fun is certainly a-ok if you have the dough.

horsepower is never a bad thing, but i feel the learning curve is a lot steeper if you dont have power. sure, i get eaten up by lots of high horsepower bling in the instructor group but the fact of the matter is that i cant afford to buy a Z06 or porsche let alone track it and have the money for monster 335 tires for the rear. when i was in group 1 and 2, there were several instances where i'd walk all over cars with double or even triple my horsepower, but at the same time, i'd be humbled by a crx or saturn in the same session. nowadays i still hang with the cars of similar power in my group and can run a decent (but not great) lap time on old and hard compound street tires.

i know i can still improve a lot but i'm still having fun driving and i play with different lines and different strategies for corners and see how it works. sometimes it does, most of the time it doesnt, but i atleast know that for next time, i shouldnt do that. i always try to tell my students to use whatever situation they're in to learn. if you cant help it that you're stuck in the middle of a train of cars, work on keeping your vision up or your line at a slightly abbreviated pace. if you havent dialed in your car and you're understeering at every corner, use that to learn to drive a car that is extremely prone to plow. you only get so much track time per weekend and every single person out on track in all groups does not know everything there is to know about driving. if they did, they wouldnt be at some amateur club race.

I never said that, but if Ill be using a dsm for Time Trials, thats what I should be learning on, and honestly, horsepower isnt always a crutch, I have actually found it more of a problem. Id love to throw a car into a corner or come out of a corner full, usually im having problems having to lift mid-corner or coming out of corners because im right on someone's ass, thats a seriously dangerous proposition in rwd or awd.

Are you planning on racing, or are you doing it scrictly for fun. I plan on Time trialing my car, which is WHY I need to learn MY car. However if I just planned on doing HPDEs my entire life, you bet I would be in a miata. Cheaper, more fun in terms of you can go balls out without being balls deep in trouble. You go off in a miata full throttle your probably going slow enough to stop before the wall, I fully realize if I go off track coming out of a corner full speed, ill be in some serious wallage. Thats the name of the game.
