The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread!
I also always leave wifi on and pop on bluetooth / GPS when I need it. I get a full day, maybe a day and a morning without charge on my S7. I am also constantly on my cell for work though so I would say I'm a heavy user.

Top left of the screen takes you back to your previous app, double clicking the home button shows all your previous apps. Apps that require going backwards have their own buttons, top left of the screen in the Chrome app has back/forward buttons.

I don't like the size of phablets either, I even prefer the smaller 6S to my G4, that being said you can alleviate some of the frustration by double touching (not clicking) the home button. It'll scooch everything halfway down the screen until you interact with it, so you can hit the top row of buttons while using the phone one handed.

Not that it helps you if the device is locked down, but after all my different iterations of smartphones, my personal "perfect porridge" is an Apple phone running almost exclusively Google apps. As soon as I got this 6S I dumped all the default Apple shit into a folder and replaced it with Gmail/Chrome/Google Maps/Google Search/Google Docs/Google Calendar/etc. The only default Apple apps I use regularly are the Messenger/Phone/Alarm/Find Friends. Oh and Apple Pay I guess, I've actually been using that quite a bit.
Nah, like i know I'm extremely biased. It's just not for me. But the back button thing is for real. I figured out the top left thing pretty quick. It's just annoying. It blends in more and is smaller and harder to hit especially on the plus whereas the back button it right down in the corner always there, always ready to go and is part of the phone opposed to the app

Oh also, having to swipe to unlock it to bring up the passcode screen is stupid. But my s7 does that now too so not just Apple but stupid none the less. My s5 just came up with the passcode or pattern screen. Why do I need to unlock my screen twice. And I would do away with the pattern unlock but stupid Samsung thinks I need my screen to turn on in my pocket when I get a text at which point my phone starts pocket texting or calling or ends up in some random settings screen changing things. But extra security probably doesn't hurt.

Happy Joey, I hate on Android too Wink

They won't let you use TouchID with it? TouchID can actually be a little annoying when you just want to check for notifications because it'll unlock it so fast. Sometimes you just see a flash of a notification with no chance to read it and you have to go find it in the notifications pull down.

When I had my LG I ended up just not using a password or pattern because I didn't feel like punching something in every time I wanted to use it.

It's touch ID the fingerprint scanner? I think thats unlocked still but we have OtterBox's on them and there's something weird going on around the button. Like an extra piece of plastic either from the case or they left the original screen protector on so it can't read fingerprints. I'll investigate whenever I take the case off but we mostly only use the phones to punch in and out of stops right now (printing invoices to come later) and I've found if I just set the lock delay to an hour, I usually end up back at the phone (in the truck) before it locks.

Yeah it's the fingerprint scanner, I could see a thick case making it more difficult to use.

So I think my battery super-drain stemmed from using the Google Now Launcher. It's awesome in theory because it always knows where you are and tries to predict a bunch of shit about what's nearby or on your calendar. It also chews through battery at an insane rate, because it never lets any aspect of the phone rest.

I switched to Nova Launcher and things have been way better. TouchWiz is largely fine but there are a few elements of it that make me wonder which intern's design made it to production - so this lets me avoid that.

Everything is snappy, the fingerprint reader is faster than my iPhone 6 was (granted, this is a newer phone). The camera, so far, is really fantastic.

I do like having a dedicated Back button. Nice touch.

This is actually the hardest thing for me to deal with when using someone's iphone. I know it's a design choice and people get used to whatever, but it seems so obvious to have one that I chuckle whenever people talk about "Apple design."

I feel like I'm always doing something wrong with my camera. They advetise these insane specs and show hd video shot on them and yet my pictures always look like they were shot on an old flip phone. :dunno:

Get used to things working in theory and failing in practice

I once had it hiccup at CVS but I realized it was because I wasn't tapping it on the magnetic stripe reader, which is how Samsung does it, not with the normal tap to pay location. Once I started always tapping by the stripe reader I have never had it not work.

EDIT: On that note, also turn off the NFC. Samsung Pay doesn't need it so unless you have another need for it, you can turn it off.

Yeah, idk what you're doing man. Even my fellow iPhone loving friends ask that we use my phone to take pictures. You sure it's not something as dumb as the camera being dirty?

I mean I usually have the resolution turned down I guess but I just turned it up tonight but I was in a low light setting so idk. Maybe I'll play around with it this weekend.

I feel like any video worth a damn quality wise won't send as a message also so I usually keep that turned down too

I also made sure to put the scotch tape that holds the back of my phone together around the lens Wink

I guess we'll find out next week, but if Apple actually releases the new iphone with no headphone jack, I'm probably going to jump ship when I'm due for an upgrade here in a few months. It sounds like google is releasing a new phone called the pixel and pixel xl that are supposed to be more of a premium iphone competitor type of thing, so maybe that's an option.

I'm in the same boat as Jake. I haven't ever had anything but iphones as long as I've had smart phones so I have no idea whats out there really.

Actual PDF editing is serious business. I'm not sure such a product even exists on a lightweight platform.

Yeah - I'd settle for exporting it to word and doing a halfway decent job of that so that it could be edited in word. I'm actually asking for a friend, who owns a chromebook so thats why i said Chrome OS too but I don't know jack about that

Exporting a Word document to PDF != Editing a PDF

I'm in this business and AFAIK your only option for that is desktop Acrobat Pro. :? Any other workflow is likely going to make a mess out of anything more than a simple document.

Oh, Mikey... you used to be 1337.

Looks like they took away the option to convert back and forth. I know I've done it, cause that's why the app is on my phone. It was annoying to do, but it worked okay in a pinch.

BTW, Nitro Pro for desktop. Smile
