Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI

So I finally go around to blacking out my emblems and chrome bits on the car with Plastidip. They honestly really bugged the crap out of me for a while. Chrome is overrated. I won't do a long writeup on how I did it or anything (because there are plenty of videos on Youtube) but I will say that I like Plastidip now for a couple of reasons:
1. It's cheap
2. You can peel it off if you mess up
3. Overspray doesn't stick to interior panels really (yeah good thing this wasn't paint)
4. It looks great

I will also say that I won't try this again unless I have another whole day to kill. I thought I would be done with this at lunch time, but masking off stuff when you are doing the entire car takes frickin forever. Also, the window trim on a cadillac is a PAIN...the Plastidip didn't have a clean break and I had to "paint" it back on with a paint brush. Super annoying but it turned out decent at 12 inches.

I'll get some more outside pics when I pull into work tomorrow even though my car is super dirty right now. The grill looks way better as do the doors. Just need to paint the calipers and put the decals on like I had on my Lexus and I will be done cosmetically!

A few shots from outside the office today. Yes I know the car is super dirty, it's been raining and there is still residue from the tape. I will get it fully cleaned up eventually...ha.





I'm going to pull off those GM "squares" in between the front wheel and front doors so I didn't bother dipping them.

Took it through the pay and spray today and snapped a few more pics. Now that it's clean I realized how absurdly bad I oversprayed this thing and how lucky I am that it is just rubber and easily comes off!! The car is black so you can't really see it, but when I get it detailed it will be really noticeable beforehand under the lights.

Finally got my calipers painted up and the red CTS vinyls applied. Looks a million times better. I will take the car through the pay and spray today and take a few pics. Still working on hooking up with Dan for a real cleaning Only other issues I have had with the car:
- The leather on the seat backer peeled up and needs to be reset
- Bluetooth drops in and out during calls (this could be an issue with my phone, I am not really sure)

Kind of already getting bored with the car but it doesn't surprise me at all. I am about at the time when I start to look at new vehicles. Have looked at everything from trucks / SUVs to GT500s. I still like the idea of the Z06 but I really think Ford is well ahead of Chevy in terms of reliability and long term quality right now...at least on their newer vehicles.
