You know what really grinds my gears?!
Or my [least] favorite: "?"

I'm not a fucking bot. Say hello or ANYTHING. I am not going to reply with the proper syntax or something. I actually don't reply to that at all. Unfortunately, it's my boss who does it most often.

When people ping me on Lync at work with just "Hi" or "Hello" and then proceed to pause a couple of minutes to actually ask a question instead of "Hey, do you know where I can find blah blah blah?"

JUST ASK ME THE FUCKING QUESTION UP FRONT!!!!! :finger: :finger:

Not sure I agree on the hate of something asking if I have a minute. Sometimes I don't, I tell them, and we schedule something. That's useful.

My old boss worked remotely (well, really I did... I was in VA and the rest of the team in NYC). She had this habit of sending me emails, and promptly - within minutes if not seconds - IM'ing me to ask if I had read her emails.

I shut that shit down FAST. Don't treat me like a child.

Co-worker at my old place did that shit, except in person. he would e-mail something and, I shit you not, would walk over within 5 minutes asking if you had read his e-mail. Then would continue to state exactly what was in his e-mail anyway.

I never got "did you READ it", I got:
"Didja get my email?"
"I don't know. I mean, probably. Most likely yes."
What other response does this question deserve? :dunno:

Easy button for me, I just don't get on Lync. If you need to reach me you can call me or send an email and I'll get back to it when I'm available. I'm sharing my screen through webinar 50%-60% of the day anyway so popups and messages are going to get ignored no matter what.

Chicago O'Hare, in general. I wish I could send the airport an invoice for all of the hours it has stolen from me...that would be a nice little nest egg.

Less of a gear grinding and more of a gross out: People who brush their teeth (or floss like I saw this morning) in an airport bathroom. Rookie mistake. Bro, your plaque can wait 3 hours until you get home, it's not worth the airborne herpAIDS

People who whistle and/or make kissing noises towards my dog as we are walking and then do nothing else. No asking to pet, nothing - just distracting the dog. Legitimately do not get this and it's annoying.

when drivers (or anyone on the road) that slow down like they're going to give up their right of way for you and then just roll through. if you have the right of way, use it.

I encounter this a bunch while on the bike at trail crossings (stop or don't, just don't hesitate and then roll through...)

I would prefer that everyone just understands the rules (written or otherwise) and drives assertively. Things would move much better around here, although I dont think the drivers are that awful. Well except for the girl on the airport ring road the other day that got confused and stopped in the middle of the road, on a sunday of a holiday weekend, that I almost rear ended.

old people who really shouldn't be driving. was behind a guy who broke about 10 different laws in about a mile of driving.

1 - driving 10 below 25
2 - driving halfway in bike lane
3 - driving in bike/bus only lane
4 - driving in the oncoming lane
5 - stopping 100ft before stoplight (probably not a law)
6 - driving through a transit square (no cars allowed) in a green-painted (bikes only) lane
7 - changing lanes in the middle of an intersection
8 - again, driving in a bus-only lane

it was unreal. i don't know how the guy hasn't been pulled over and had his license pulled on the spot.

that might be one of those times you need to call it in. just tell the dispatch you suspect the driver's drunk and you'll probably actually get a response that way.

old folks who are that un-self-aware of their ineptitude, or just really selfish at that age can't be convinced to turn their keys in, they need to have them taken away.

Oh jeez. I was walking to my car after work in Rosslyn a few months ago, down a one-way road (Lynn St). Lynn intersects with the tail end of Route 29, that is also one-way.

This ancient dude in a Buick comes to a stop at the red light where 29 intersects with Lynn - a light in which you may either go straight or turn left - puts on his right turn signal, and promptly turns right and drives the wrong way down Lynn, with 5 PM commuter traffic headed at him. He appeared to give zero fucks. Flipped on his right signal again at the next light and turned right, now going the correct way with the flow of traffic up 19th.

I stood there slack-jawed.

Studded tires are legal for half the year because real mountains. Should be banned anyway because I think I read somewhere that snow tires have caught up to them in terms of performance. Costs a ton in road maintenance.

I have no rational reason why this bothers me, but when people respond to a work email or text with "Thanks, Lee." (Thanks comma Lee) It's probably punctually correct but for some unknown reason it bugs the living daylights out of me. Like when you say "Thanks Lee" in real life do you pause for a noticeable moment. Do you take that few seconds to catch your breath and add gravity to the fact that you are thanking me for something?

No of course you don't, you freaking say thank you and we go about our merry business

no comma = actual thanks
comma = as bad as "thanks". They hate you.
