Project: 2012 DGM WRX
Interesting. Thanks Rex!

Or, you could get a more aggressive pad first and see if that does what you need.
Easy button.

Unless you're going to actually be hitting the track more in this car, I think you're wasting your money on upgrading your calipers.

I agree. I am actually just thinking about swapping the pads and leaving it at that. the multi pot calipers are just cool.

Save the money you'd blow on a caliper upgrade, spend $20 on some piping to flow air to your rotors, and spend the difference on track time. Improving the driver > improving the car at this stage for you.
FWIW - I did the same "I must have big brakes before I go on track" about 8 years ago and I kinda regret it, so this isn't unfounded advice. If you get some more seat time, you'll appreciate what the brake upgrade offers when you eventually do it because you may need it at that point.

Note: He might be yelling at you, but remember, you have his life in your hands and he is keeping you safe from yourself and others. Dont take anything personally.

No problem, it was fun even if the brakes were a bit inadequate. I thought everything with the car felt great but was really surprised at how crappy those pads were. Honestly, I think a set of dedicated track pads/rotors would go a really long way if you want to keep tracking the WRX for a few events.

Any recommendations for pads?

I have been reading about stoptechs and while they seem good for daily driving and some autox, they dont seem to hold up well for track use.

I am looking at the Hawk black or blue pads for track only and just switch back to stock pads for the street.

I use hawk hps pads for street and autox (Hp+ is better for autox only). I used carbotech xp10s when I tracked my wrx.

Didn't you have a problem with the HT10s having the rivets come up through 30% of trhe pad (making the 30% worthless?) Is that why you went with the Carbotechs?

I seem to remember that a LOONNNGG time ago, so if I am wrong smack me in the head.

What pads were you running that the rivets came up through 30% of the pads then? I DO remember you complaining about it.

Couldn't ask for a better pad. I only used 4 different pads throughout the 3 years of tracking my wrx, but the other 3 weren't as aggressive. My wrx was far from stock so I was running a brake setup equivalent to the brembos on the STi.

I never got a chance to try PFC or HAWKS on track which I'd like to in the future. Carbotechs are great for the $$, but I just want to try them all.

man that was so long ago, I'd have to think about it. I want to say they were the rotora pads that came with the bbk I was using. That's probably why I switched to carbotechs. I know I had no issues with the carbotechs because I used those until they were done completely on a handful of sets

Ah, the black RPFs were really only intended for track and autox use. The rotas are for summer/dd use.

As much as its been debated, I don't really think there's a good double duty track/street pad, especially for a heavy car with some power. The Carbotech XP10 is a fantastic pad for the track though so I would definitely recommend that. I would also get a set of dedicated rotors too and not reuse your old street rotors.
