Maengelito Wrote:Also, where are we paddocking? We'll probably need a lot of space since we have more people driving this weekend. When are you going to get there?
Sound like I might be the first there, I hope to arrive by 4:30 friday. I'm assuming some of you saw the same "limited paddock space" email I just got. Since we really only have like 4 full-time drivers and some hyperdrivers, I'll shoot for at least 80x35, but I'll need some help holding it, so come find my ti! I'll set up my blue tent too unless it's really windy.

I probably won't be able to get there by 4:30 but I'll shoot for as close to that as possible. I'll text you when I leave.

I won't be there until late Friday night. I'm driving all weekend so a paddock spot with yous guys would be great  Just big enough for a car, no trailer or even tire trailer.
Anyone that's going to be there...shoot me a text at 5 4 oh - two 4 7 - 1 six 2 one so I can catch up when I get there.

Hopefully everyone brought their rain tires!
Im actually somewhat excited, yeah its rain, but you also get to have extremely good car control practice. Doubt any records will be falling this weekend.

I really wouldn't mind rain if I had r-tires with anything that even resembles tread or grooves. Even my dailies don't have very much tread. Atleast I remembered to rain-x my windshield so I can see when I go off in the mud.

Mismatched all-seasons, beeches!! I'm ready for anything and everything, with limited grip on all counts. At least the tires are new so tread depth is decent.

Forgot to mention my dad and father in law are coming down saturday, can they get some rides with you instructor types?
Soooo happy to be bringing the akra. Tires are new and with a lot less HP and a lot more ABS, chances of ending up in Maengs ruts are minimized.

Had another great weekend at VIR... was a lot of fun Hyperdriving the E34! It sort of has power, which was fun to play with. I was able to sort-of-maybe touch 120 mph on the back straight a few times. The tires ÔÇô three brands on four wheels ÔÇô┬áwere howling by the end of the session. They have tread, but who knows the age. Fortunately, they're coming off in the next day or so.
David and I had bled my brakes on Friday. The pedal felt great on the drive down, and I figured the car would do okay for one session on stock pads/rotors. The guys at BWade said the pads/rotors looked close to new when they did my state inspection last week. Well, I had "good" pedal feel and brake action for about four laps. On the fifth, the pedal travel increased by roughly 48 inches and I slowed down very... slowly. Fluid is boiled for sure. Driving home today was less than confidence-inspiring. I know what I'm doing tomorrow.
The steering wheel is the size of a ship's wheel. The suspension is soft and has to play catch-up to the wheels. It was cold outside, but Maeng and I slid around and braced ourselves in comfort, thanks to my heated, non-sport seats. I achieved 10.2 MPG throughout this excursion. It was fun, in an "oh my god why am I doing this" sort of way
Great to see alums as always!! Had fun after the day on Saturday between the Mid Atlantic garage party (thanks guys) and the tavern. Looking forward to Summit in a few weeks...

fun times, sorry I didn't get to hang out more, instructing kept me busy!
Wow my car is damn near picking up the front wheel, I didn't know it was THAT bad
Yeah I don't like to replace my tires until it feels like I have a bad wheel bearing and the corner workers call in for a clicking noise when I pass them. No worries guys! That's just the steel belts hitting the track. I call them "wear indicators".
Oh well, it's crashed now. :dunno: Managed to limp it home, but it may never see the track again. VIR wins.

Dated 3/26/2011, for immediate release:
The #117 RB&V fueled BMW 318ti was forced off the track this afternoon in the NASA HPDE Nationals at VIR by a black S2000, #37, driver unknown. The incident occurred in turn 5, when #37 attempted a "Gran Turismo style" pass in retaliation for a previous passing incident involving a rude, but assumingly justifiable, gesture made by Channing Preston, driver and owner of the #117 RB&V car. #117 made contact with the guardrail on the outside of T5 and was able to limp back to the paddock despite front and rear suspension, steering, half-shaft, and cooling system damage. #37 was completely destroyed in the incident.
Though unable to finish this race, the RB&V BMW team will likely clinch the driver, manufacturer, and series championship as they normally finish many laps ahead of the field. Driver Gerald Irish was apparently unhurt, while Channing Preston was hospitalized for non-related, contractual RB&V injuries.
