So I am thinking about painting the calipers since now they look out of place being the stock metal.
I am thinking about going with just the black G2 caliper paint kit but i'd like to hear other color options :dunno:
Black is a good one. I put red CTS high temp vinyls on them after painted to make it look a little nicer. I did the same thing on my Lexus. I did my old WRX red and they looked pretty good.

I did red on my jaguar before and it looked good.
However, with the dark grey body and black wheels on the Subbie, the car overall looks more stealth. I am wondering if the red would standout too much. I was thinking that I go with the black to continue the stealth look.

I agree, however, I cant seem to find RPF1s in 18x8 et45+ 5x100 in matte black. They seem to come in gold but I'm not sure I want to buy them and then spend another $125 per wheel to powder coat them.
A majority of the RPF1s with a wider width on the 18s (8.5 to 9.5) have an et of 35 which is really pushing the offset. It makes it flush with the fender but im not sure i am comfortable with that amount of stress to the suspension geometry.

I have a hard time wanting to spend 1k on wheels and then just spray paint them.
With the help of youtubes, i installed my shocks and springs yesterday and got an alignment today
The springs dropped the car only 15mm but the you can instantly tell the stiffness. the spring rates are 330 front and back.
Here are the alignment setting for anyone interested...
Front Left | Front Right
Camber: -1.70 | Camber: -1.70
Toe: +0.01 | Toe: +0.01
-------------------------------------------------------------
Rear Left | Rear Right
Camber: -1.60 | Camber: -1.50
Toe: 0.00 | Toe: 0.00
BIG THANKS to MAENG for agreeing, even if it was last moment and on the spot, to be my instructor for the Hyperdrive session on saturday!
The new suspension felt really good. It felt pretty stiff and leveled decently for hard turn ins. The alignment, although a little over nibble for street use felt very at home on the track. I was running on the stock Dunlops and they really aren't made for the track. I will have to look at upgrading those tires too.
Points to note: slowing down from 125+ to a reasonable turn-in speed is VERY tough on the brakes. Maeng was yelling at me to "BRAKE! BRAKE! BRAKE!" and my only response to him was, "my foot is on the floor". Luckily we didnt go off the track anywhere but we were VERY close (maybe 1 foot from the edge of the track) on turn 1 twice. However, to be fair, I wasn't scared but I was worried about running off of the track. The pads are fried for track use after one session and rotors have some groves in them, however, they dont seem warped or causing vibration. Before i go out on the track again, I will need to upgrade the pads for sure.
The one kinda scary part was doing an AWD drift on a downhill roller coaster S turn at 14a. But I am not going to lie, it was AWESOME to get that car a little sideways.
ONCE AGAIN, BIG THANKS TO MAENG!! Awesome instructor! I highly recommend him to anyone looking to go out for the first time. Note: He might be yelling at you, but remember, you have his life in your hands and he is keeping you safe from yourself and others. Dont take anything personally.

Quoted for truth. He probably doesn't hear it himself much, but Jeff Curtis and a bunch of the instructors hold him in high regard.

I can easily see why!
side note to DJ: Wanna part with some R compounds that are used up by your standards?

I don't really have any right now. But I can pick some up. Ill check tonight if I can get some for you. How much tread does it need? Are you just looking to get a weekend or two out of tires? If you can get tires mounted up for free, I can usually source plenty of tires that are plenty useable for a weekend, if not 2 or 3.

It was just a thought. I'm not sure how much track time I will face in the future. scared of doing damage to my DD. I would prefer a project car but that gets into whole new game (so much monies). If i were to do some more events, tread life could be for a couple weekends. I need to find a place that i can get free tire mounts. or someone with a machine (used to mount and balance tires in my previous life)
I was looking at upgrading the calipers at some point and going to the 4pot/2pot used in the older WRXs. See post below:

Well, not to poopoo on 4 pot monoblocs, but legacy GT brakes would give you a cheaper and better upgrade altogether.
I mean, they don't look as cool. So there's that. But it's gonna be way cheaper than digging up 4 pots from 05/06 wrx's...

I'll have to look into them and if they will fit on the GV chassis. Interesting enough, in order to make the rear 2pots work on the new WRX/STis, you have to use a rotor from a leggy gt.

They should bolt on, the GV and BL actually have more in common than the GV and GD. Rear suspension for the GV was a huge departure from GD and GC architecture...but basically identical to the BL.
