No update in a month, haven't forgotten about this car though! I haven't been driving it much just to keep the transmission in one piece so I can get it to a shop in the early part of next year. I'm waiting to get through tax season and then doing all of the mechanical work at once. Hopefully by spring when it's warm and the weather is better it will be road worthy...interior work will come shortly after. The goal is to have it ready by that Mustang show next summer...which is aggressive. I've been trying to save a lot more money than spend it lately, so that hurts my play money budget.

So you are going to swap in a 5.0L EFI engine?

Nahh I like the carb, it's so awesomely old school. I may do a head swap at some point in the future, but other than that I'ma leave it the way it is.

With a good transmission it's going to be a screamer

He'd only need the intake manifold/electronics to be fuel injected. Otherwise, it is already a 5.0 liter out of a late model; roller cam, etc...

Originally, the plan was to build it with EFI, but cost/time constraints forced us to go with the carb. Frankly, the EFI is cool and all, but I think it looks like ass in a classic Mustang, so I'm glad we went with the carb myself. Either way, the car runs awesome with the carb, and would run great with EFI too, so if Lee wants to do the swap, it's ready to go.

Any idea where the original VIN is located on this thing? Everything I'm reading online is telling me it's stamped inside the front driver side fender...meaning I have to take it off because you can't see the one stamped on top...

NC's titling process is so suck that they had to take pics of the car and the VIN...since they couldn't see it I have to remove the fender and try to find it.

Nice, someone pulled some strings and I don't have to take the fender off now. I don't understand why NC cares so much about old classic car registration.

Now I should hopefully have the NC title in a month or so. I'm still planning a Caribbean trip in April/May so this project may get put on hold for longer than I thought, but should still have the trans / driveshaft and some other minor stuff done by summer.

Is it normal for a carb to "weep" gas? It seems like theres a little gas or oil mixture pooling up in the crevice only on one side of it.

Doesnt sound right. My carb'd SS will sit for long periods of time and never drips a leak that I've noticed.

Meh, I'm not really driving it at this point just battery tending it and starting it every now and then to keep it lubed up. I will have the restorers look at it when I bring it in for the tranny swap in the spring.

So no progress really has been made. And now I'm at a crossroads. Need MM input.

I love this car, but I am not so sure I have the bandwidth to focus on a project. This year has already started out pretty crazy and I don't think it's going to slow down (I've been in 6 different states in the last 10 days).

I also know it's going to probably cost me a lot more than expected and take a lot more time than I have. And it looks like I might be starting to save for a pretty big life purchase here soon and could use that money Smile

I do want a weekend car, classic or otherwise, but I want something that I don't have to put a lot of work into. I also miss the garage space selfishly, I'm not going to lie.

Thoughts? Flames? I haven't 100% decided to pass this project on, but it's definitely something I've been considering.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
