I disagree with that. It really depends on the point of the picture.

I picked up the Sigma 70-300 the other weekend, bad ass lens for the price!
oh if you are going to be shooting inside w/ that 70-300 you might want to get a speedlight. The built in flash can cause the telephoto lens to cast a shadow on your image.
What's a speedlight?
I cant think of anywhere that I could use a 70-300 inside.

It's a flash,
And there are TONS of ways to use it inside, just depends on the kind of picture you want to take. A good flash is also useful outside on a sunny day.
I carry mine wherever I go and always use it for outdoor shoots.
IMO it's MUCH more useful than a 50mm.

Which one do you have? I have the 430EX and was thinking of getting the 580 so I could do some off camera flash, there's some situations when it would really come in handy, especially w/ a mobile baby.
How much do those flashes sell for?

Are they on backorder or something?

yes, there are none in stock at any store Ive looked at. A few on ebay but i dont do ebay for stuff like this.
btw, I disagree with chris, I think a fast 50mm kicks a lot of ass, you just have to move your feet more. Mine has made up for my lack of photog talent on a lot of shots.

A lot of photography stuff seems to be a matter of opinion, and everyone else's opinion is wrong. 50mm lens, filters, lens hoods, canon vs. nikon, canon/nikon vs. 'aftermarket' glass, and so on....

.RJ Wrote:Maybe - I have a mini-tripod but thats not going to cut it. Chris is trying to talk me into a UV lens filter too.
you want to get that UV filter, and maybe a circular polarizer, seeing as how you like to take pictures of shiny things it will come in handy, I just wish I didn't' lose so much light w/ the UV filter since a lot of my shots are indoors.

Me = Nikon

It doesn't make up for that blob in the bottom right corner of your picture.
Taking a clear picture is not the point of a 50mm lens, it's just what you're using it for. You can do that with any lens. The point of the fast 50mm is the ability to dial the aperture way up. Maybe I'm just not used to dealing with shitty Canon kit lenses.

Take the exposure compensation up one step (or less). It should combat the effects of the filter without having to deal with lengthening shutter speed.

If the 50mm lens came with an ATV you'd be all up on it!

If you shoot with a canon, IMO its stupid not to pick up the $75 50/f1.8
