and we may be able to stay at Tara's. I'll know for sure next week.
If we do, I can count on everybody to behave themselves, right?

Want to stand trackside to watch the AMA races?

If any of you guys have experience with motorcycle racing/track days, there is a possibility that you could work trackside at VIR for the AMA races. VIR and AMA flaggers will be manning the corner stations, but there is a need for responders and "extra hands" on most of the corners.

If you have corner experience with NASA or other car clubs, that would be good, but working motorcycles is a whole different animal.

Anyone who is interested can drop me a note at greenflag@comcast.net. I'll be glad to answer questions, or at least route them to the VIR flag chief and get back to you asap.

Update:
I am hearing that AMA is paying about $80 cash each day (Thurs-Sun).
Also, it sounds like worker camping will be free (in a designated area).

Since it is an AMA gig, they are going to be pretty serious looking for folks with motorcycle race experience first, warm bodies last.

It's hot as heck and the action can get pretty crazy, but the view is amazing. Big Grin

I'm a maybe, and I'm debating whether to camp out at the track or not.

I'm still in. Jess might tag along, and we're also on the fence about just camping at the track.

When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

Can one of y'all call the track and find out what the deal with camping fees for those coming in on motorbikes is?

I'm in but how far away is Tara's place? If it's too much of a ride I may just camp too (gotta get use out of this new tent). Either way I'll be there.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I just called VIR, and they clarified that it is indeed $50 per vehicle even for motorcycles. This is rather assinine, and I'm going to write an email to the VIR manager about it, but for now I'll just plan on 'camping' at Tara's place or a hotel room.

The VIR manager wrote me back - he seemed reasonable about it, and said he'll look into doing something like a group motorcycle camping pass for the future... its too close to the event to make any changes for this year, so thats understandable.

ok ya'll.

Tara would like to get an approximate head count. So please chime in if you plan on crashing at her place.
And if you are, I will be asking you to pitch in for a pair of tix for her and her boyfriend to the race. Seems only fair since they are letting us stay at their place, and it will be cheaper than hotel/camping.
