"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Are you counting a car owned by someone you are dating? That's cheating.
Also, just buy a 911 already.

I really want one as a 3rd car. 1st gens can be had for dirt cheap, although they werent great when new and havent seemed to age well. The 2nd gen (2005-2012) seems like a much nicer car. $20k buys you a nice, lower mile S model.
Yeah, I've thought of one as a "someday" replacement for the 328IC, kindamaybe. Although the new(er) truck purchase likely put the kibosh on that for a long while. I really like the 2nd-gen a lot more than the 1st. Maybe give it a few more years and see where those are at price-wise.
And yes, I know my suggestions were out of left field, given our typical recommendations of E36, E46, Miata, S2000, 240, MR2, Corvette and F-Body had all been mentioned in one way or another.
Get weird, it's fun.

The 2nd gen is the only one worth having. The 1st gen S's are okay, but there is a very good reason that's the cheapest model of Porsche currently in the market, you can't even get a decent 914 as cheap as you can get one of those things.

There is a 99 Z3M roadster on BMW mid-atlantic classifieds with 93k miles for $15,000. It's also the best color, estoril blue. Don't know much about what they sell for normally, but I think they still have the s52 so the maintenance wouldn't be quite as bad as an e46m.

That's not a terrible price for a dealer, I see them ranging from 10-12k+ with that mileage on the forums depending on colors and stuff.

S52s are dead nuts reliable once you realize its a 17 year old vehicle and you should replace anything rubber/plastic in the cooling system and suspension.
Z3M roadsters have been haunting me lately and might be my next replacement from the C5Z. Some great suggestions here.

I think I would probably even rather have the s52 over the s54 in a small roadster like that. The torqueyness of the s52 combined with the right suspension in a small roadster would be just like a bigger go-kart.

toyota MR spyder with a 2ZZ/6spd swap (i should note this is a more common swap than you'd think because the stock engine is kinda lame)? pretty rare car for a mainstream car builder, but still attainable, reliable, and arguably better handling than a miata. you can get a hardtop and rollbar for them though they're hard to find. poor-man's lotus elise in a way. kinda ugly though and absolutely no practicality beyond being a toy with an engine in it.

those skys/solstices are pretty cool too...the ecotec turbo engines are little beasts. they're more of a mini-corvette than a roadster though and have almost as little storage space as the MRS, so its hard not to just shop the vette instead. i think the prices are enticing though.
