Man that really sucks, we had that problem in our last neighborhood but a) we didn't really have a front or back yard so it was more of grass strip dodging and b) it was because there were a lot of renters that had moved in. I am with Jon on the yard signs. You are a graphic artist, I am sure you can get really creative as far as conjuring up something that is both hilarious and ominous in the same tone! So last night the weather was amazing. Casey and I wanted to sit out on the covered porch and drink wine like classy mofos. But the problem was we also wanted to catch up on The American's.
So to remedy the solution I pulled out an old 17in flat screen we had in Averies room at the old house and my trusty Chromecast. (Disclaimer: She has no TV in her room anymore so her brain stays intact vs mush.)
What we realized is watching TV on the porch is awesome.
So awesome that Casey brought up putting a TV outside.
Outdoor TVs are retarded expensive, like $2k for a 32 in. Nah I'm good.
So....
32in TCL Roku TV $150
Amazon articulating mount $25
Waterproof bag/cover for TV $25
$200 and we can put a TV on our covered porch.
With the mount, it is easily removable during extreme weather.
While under the porch it is mostly protected from everything minus humidity and the cover would protect it from any blowing rain.
If something happens to the TV, I am out $150, and would need to go through 13 TVs before I would break even buying an outdoor TV first.
Is this a retarded idea?

Not retarded at all. My dad has wanted to do this forever. Although your viewing angle seems a bit high.

My wife was always asking me to put one in our screened porch and I refused. Our backyard was trees and solitude then and I didn't want the temptation of or someone else watching TV when going out there. I did love doing the occasional movie out there though so I get the watching on the porch thing.
Do you have wall space that is better protected and might give a better viewing angle? That looks pretty uncomfortable to watch to be honest.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
Yea, viewing angle is probably the biggest concern. We would be viewing from the couch opposite the tv, but lower and I think it would look out of place.
The only real wall space is to the right. There is a wide enough portion between the post and the sliding door to fit the TV, but then I'm drilling into the side of the house and cutting vinyl siding.
Where mounting to the post, I am some wood putty and white paint away from no one knowing it was ever there.
With the mount I can angle down, and sitting on the couch looking up at the paper wasn't bad. I wish there was some way I could put the tv up there prior to drilling and mounting.
I wouldn't leave a TV outside in the mid-atlantic climate. The humidity will age the internals pretty fast and how many nice weather days are there really? Just get a 32" smart tv with a stand and set on a table when you want to actually use it. We do this in our backyard.

I wouldn't consider putting a TV outside without a weather proof case. http://www.thetvshield.com/enclosures/r ... 0-40-inch/

Yea maybe mounting it is overkill.
I could do the cheap Roku TV and set it on the table, all I need is power. When not on the porch it could be my garage TV.
I think I will see how many times we do this again with the 17inch TV to see if it warrants the purchase.
Speaking of porches, this is how you get a brand new one compliments of a tree company. We were having three taken down and the last one went about 10 inches right of where they wanted it to. (not sure if I shared this here when it happened years ago but oh well)
edit: need a new photo hosting site, f'n bucket...

ScottyB Wrote:i hate sounding like "that guy" but i officially have a phantom dog shitter problem.
at first i didn't care..."oh someone forgot their baggies"...until it kept coming. this isn't little toy dog poops, i'm talking healthy child sized turd mountains, and its gone from never a problem to now piles of this stuff in like the last 10 days. about 2 feet into my grass along a 10 foot strip.
my house is right on an intersection in our subdivision that gets a lot of sidewalk traffic. i don't have surveillance to confirm who it is and i'm on good terms with my neighbors, or most people on the street who have big dogs, so i think its someone from another street who's just walking the dogs at odd hours and thinks he/she can get away with being an asshole to people they don't know and get away with it. as it turns out, in talking recently my neighbor across the street is dealing with it too. so, somebody's dog just can't make it past our street without unloading a loaf it seems.
i have to mow like every 4 days (thanks SE climate and bermuda grass) and my kid plays in the yard so this isn't just offensive, its getting in the way of me keeping the house up and unhealthy for my child and my neighbor's kids. for now i'm kicking it all into the sidewalk, because i'm not picking it up on principal.
i'm oddly divided. on one hand, i'm getting madder by the day. on the other hand, i'm a vengeful son of a bitch when it comes to people messing with what i try to keep nice, and i'm excited at the idea of devising a way to make the person responsible unhappy or uncomfortable. the HOA won't do a thing, because how could they, so i'm fixing this myself. i'm not dropping $$$ on a surveillance camera for that side of my house over some poop yet, and motion sprinklers are out due to the danger of a false alarm and soaking some poor jogger or kid since its right next to the sidewalk.
current plan: i heard this on the internet ( my search history must look so weird right now) and have to see if it works: i'm going to cook a shitload of bacon and save the grease. then, i'm going to pour the grease all over the current turd piles. apparently, the next time the dogs come back to the same spot, they'll smell the bacon and immediately devour the shits. shortly thereafter, hopefully when they get home, they'll get sick and throw the shit back up on the floor of said asshole's house. and i get to enjoy revenge-bacon.
we're doing a grocery run tonight, so let's see what 2 packs of Oscar Meyer's finest pig juices does. tune in to find out! same poopy time, same poopy channel. See now I'm the asshole that'll get motion sensing lights, stick some airplane lights on the front of the house, walk out when they light up and yell "okay, it's you, you're the one, touch this grass one more time and see what happens."
True story here, my parents hated me for this (it's also aggressive and I'm too emotional, so don't judge me too hard but the point was made): we have 1 neighbor on both sides. They rent the house on one side and they live in the house on the other. Well one time I went home to visit and the renters had their 2 kids playing in our yard and driveway. My parents driveway is a decent length and we park in the back. I often come flying (relatively speaking) into my own spot. So I came flying round back and wham here's these two kids trying to cut out when they hear me coming. Don't look. Don't stop. Don't even hesitate and just ran right in front of me. I couldn't see them where they were behind the house so I don't see them til I'm about to turn into my spot. Thankfully, I slowed down enough and they ran straight inside through their back door. So I texted my mom and asked her if this is normal and she said no, shes actually pissed about it cause they knocked over her mint and thyme in the backyard one time. I'm livid cause I thought I just murdered someones kid on accident and learned this has been happening for a while to my parents dismay, so in my stupid rage walked on over and knocked on the door. The woman couldn't even say hi before I started, she didn't even know who I was, and I looked her dead in the face and said "I don't expect strays in my backyard and i don't have a speed limit, if you don't want an accident I suggest keeping the children in your own yard. You're lucky I found the brakes today." Walked away and my mom hasn't even seen the kids outside in their own yard since.

Our front porch is an awesome place to chill...except in the late summer afternoon. The sun sets at just the right angle where in the afternoon until basically sunset it comes right in the side and destroys you. The size of the gap between the house and the corner column was just such so that the "off the shelf" sizes of the crank down Coolaroo cordless sun shades would not work. It was the opposite of cheap but we went ahead and took the measurements and had one custom built by Coolaroo via the HD website. It just arrived last week and I'm hoping we have time this weekend to get it installed. What's great about this one is that with the way our porch is built I can install it up under the awning and you never see the bracket or shade housing from the outside. It's held down at the bottom with these clever ball catches and is cranked up and down by a long pole that we can hide away. Should do the trick and the color we got is really really close to the color of our trim.
I'll try to get some before / after pics of the install

We have one of those except not a sunsetter and ours is all one color (the color of the house). But ours, the support brackets stay up top and there's nothing on the sides so it's basically just awning. I don't see what's ugly about it? Ours at least. We actually almost never use it cause once it gets wet. We have to leave it out till it's dry and we never really need it anyways. I actually moved the pellet grill to the deck recently and used it for the first time in awhile cause the sun was pretty intense and I wanted to grill in the shade. Since then, It's probably been out more in the last two weeks than in the last 10 years. (4 times?)

Three years and one day after we moved in, we finally cleared our garage rafters of material left by... well... probably the original owner like 30 years ago. Tons of cedar paneling, trim, two flouesenct lights and a heavy 10' metal awning. Oh, and four single pane (leaded glass?) windows that were presumably facing the Olympics to the west. Also, a ton of rat shit. Gotta make room for the car top carrier.

This guy's is blue with white stripes (definitely doesn't match) and most certainly is not approved by the HOA
